Here's one I found that blows my mind. Someone actually beats Daigo. This is easily the most beastly Akuma player I've ever seen.

Re: Post here your SF videos...
That Akuma didn't do anything really spectacular. He didn't make mistakes, which is probably the biggest thing separating a casual player from a good player. I still make mistakes. I choose the wrong attack at the wrong time, I fudge inputs, I get out of position, blah blah blah. As far as his attack sequence is concerned, he did pretty much what any decent Akuma will. Air fireball into frame trap into tatsumaki into SRK. The FADC in to the EX fireball was a nice touch. That is probably the most difficult part.
I can honestly say I have never seen a Zangief like that. I had no idea two headbutts in short succession would stun. Wow. As Dudley, Zangief is my worst matchup. Just about every one will throw out the lariat to discourage jump attacks and my MGB, banishing flat to get in range, and then throw out an EX piledriver. T. Hawk is slightly less difficult, but the concept remains the same. Condor Dive to get in close, try to throw the EX Mexican typhoon. Ugh.

As an average player with enough insight to know what I'm doing wrong, and having seen a lot of videos of Daigo handing people their asses, it's pretty nuts to see a hard-on bearer beat him using Akuma (2nd lowest stamina rating in the game). It's incredible to see a hard-on bearer not make mistakes against Daigo, because that means going on the offensive and not missing. THAT is spectacular. High end tournament gameplay isn't flashy. It's seeing a hard-on bearer knowing his zone that well that amazes me. Daigo also does this shoryuken cancel into ultra fireball that blows my mind.
On another note, I have no idea what FADC stands for. Or half of the abbreviations people use for this game. I've been playing this game since SF2 came out on nintendo, and I never heard half of these things.

Re: Post here your SF videos...
Focus attack dash cancel. It lets one recover quicker after a combo, so some sort of finishing touch can be added. Cody can FADC from a lot of combos into a full animation U1. It's fruital.
I am not surprised to see an Akuma do well, because he's got a lot of good offensive options. You'll notice he can throw out an air fireball at the last second to avoid ground punishment while neutral jumping, which is absolutely necessary with his life total.

How the fuck do people pick up the timing on stuff like this? Do you hit focus at a certain point in an attack?

It's pretty narrow timing. I haven't been able to do anything of significance with focus attacks, other than crumpling stunned people.

I can catch people off guard when they're trying to do a special move at close distance, and then combo their tits off. But nothing cool with cancel.

practice, practice, and more practice. some of the characters have focus cancel combos in their trials, i know in SF4, zangief, ryu, ken and gouken all did, would assume the same in SSF4.
to FADC, you need to time the input to coincide with your attack connecting. using ryu for an example, you input your shoryuken and pretty much immediately after, you input your focus attack. it needs to be in the first few active frames of the move though, if your feet are off the ground by the time you connect, you won't be able to focus cancel.
of course, to actually make use of focus cancelling, you need to quickly dash out of the actual focus attack, by either double-tapping forward or backwards. you can kinda buffer the dash input, in that you can hit forward+MP/MK and then only need to hit forward once more to dash out. if you don't get the dash out, you'll just wind up doing an EX focus attack, which won't hit anything nor leave you with any followup options.
focus cancelling is also useful for escaping punishment if you throw out an unsafe move that gets blocked, but you need some obscene reaction skills to pull that off reliably.

I think I have seen Dudley players cancelling machine gun blow. The funny thing is that a lot of people don't punish MGB at all when it gets blocked.

LP MGB is safe on block as far as i know, but MP/FP should both be quite punishable. if i see dudley lunging across the screen you'd best believe i'm getting ready to do... well, something, hopefully.
ahem, back on topic! this dude's makoto is serious.

Just what exactly do Juri and Makoto get out of their respective timed ultra and super?

juri's allows you to do dialed in chain combos. for example, you can basically do something like, LP LK MP MK FP > backflip thingy, the normals all basicaly work like a target combo.
makoto's super ups her damage output. you can link her super > ultra, which does ~600dmg on its own, it's obscene.

Perhaps I will look into using her as an alternate character. Nobody expects Makoto or the Spanish Inqusition.

I played as Makato once and the first move she did seemed to be waving her hands in the air, possibly because she just didn't care. I left her alone after that.

haha yeah, i think that's fukiage. the LP version is useful as an anti air, if it lands you can dash forward for another before they land, and then do an EX hayate for some nice damage.

I don't doubt it has some uses, but when I play a fighting game I know there are basic moves which yeild the same general directional attack. So when I played as her...
"Ok.....quarter-circle forward and punch!..........what the fuck?"

You may have fudged the input a little. She should move forward and punch the other hard-on bearer in the solar plexus.

It's been a while since that fateful day, I probably did something else. The point is that I expected her to attack horizontally rather than pumping her fist in the air like a Hatebreed fan

You're crazy. The gameplay got really good starting with 4. Juggling and wall combo opened up the game a lot.

i never could get into fighting games. they're too competitive, or there aren't enough variables, room for innovative strategy, or something. when i was into consoles it was all about the shooters. whenever someone convinced me to play KI or MK or soul caliber i always got my ass handed to me.
