Coronal ej(acul)ections can even interfere with electronic devices on Earth. There's a clip out there somewhere from another space observing probe, where an ejection makes the video go static for a few seconds. I read somewhere that if it weren't for the Earth's magnetosphere which repels/deflects the charged particles away from Earth or towards the poles(causing auroras), every ejection would wipe out a large part of life on the Earth.

If two bodies have the same charge, the magnetic lines of force will point in opposite directions so yes its like bringing + and + together, they repel:



If you impede their repulsion you're storing potential energy there, much like compressing a spring, so when you allow it readjust they'll push away violently.



I have no idea, but the sun probably isn't like a perfect dipole magnet, with all that charged matter moving around inside of it its probably unpredictable, so its probably rearranging randomly. Get some pulverized metal like Zinc on a piece of paper and move some magnets around from underneath the paper, good fun.

The coronal mass ejections arent just matter, theyre masses of magnetic charge. They stretch the magnetosphere out elliptically. I understand that the magnetosphere returning to it's orinal shape contributes to some of what we see during aurora borealis, it's not just particles. I'm always open to correction though.

Particles = protons(ionized Hydrogen, among other things) that come from other bodies including our Sun, as well as distant cataclysmic events like supernovae, black hole ejections, etc. They collide with atoms in the atmosphere at speeds close to that of light, the universe is practically filled with gigantic particle accelerators.

Earth's magnetosphere is formed by the impact of the solar wind on the Earth's magnetic field. It forms an obstacle to the solar wind, diverting it, at a distance of about 70,000 km, forming a bow shock 12,000 km to 15,000 km further upstream. The width of the magnetosphere abreast of Earth, is typically 190,000 km, and on the night side a long "magnetotail" of stretched field lines extends to great distances.



The magnetosphere is full of ions trapped as the solar wind passes the earth. Perturbations in the solar wind increase this flow of ions. The excess moving along field lines and eventually accelerated toward the poles are responsible for changes in the aurora.

Magnetic/electric fields are simply not corpuscular, "mass-like", its why they're called fields. They don't "collide" with or physically touch anything, they just exert an influence on any charged body.
