When I first read that Anneke would be leaving The Gathering, I was disappointed. She seemed to be a wonderful fit for the band, and I was not sure someone would fill her shoes adequately. The West Pole has convinced me otherwise. This new lady is really good. The music is probably better than ever, too. I suppose it has to be, losing the long time face of the band as they did.

Re: The Gathering - The West Pole
saw them live recently (and a few years ago with anneke). they're really great even without anneke and the new gal seemed like a really cool person (yeah yeah, she's not quite on anneke's level, but she's still really really good.. and kinda cute
). good times

We really don't get to see them in America. I think they had a showcase years ago at SXSW, this big music and art festival in Texas, but that's about it.

The new album is fucking amazing. My favourite track off of this album is Capital of Nowhere with that special guest singer. I was pretty damn worried about the band after Anneke left, but it seems like they're both doing pretty fine at the moment. There's one thing I would love to do before I die and that is to see The Gathering live.
I'm guessing Cunty got you into The Gathering, huh Fu?
They've been one of my favourite bands since I first got into them 4 years ago.

I thought that the West Pole was okay. If I give it more listens, I'll probably warm up to it. The new chick isn't that bad though.

I have no recollection. I bought Souvenirs and that was pretty much that. Mandylion and If_Then_Else have been my favorites for some time now, but The West Pole does not disappoint.

The more I listen, the more this album claws its way up the rankings of my favorite albums by The Gathering. It would probably have to be my favorite release of 2009, too.
