Just watched Event Horizon for the first time yesterday
That scene where they play the final log of the old ship crew fucked me up for the whole day. It was just a few seconds but I think if you're going to be horrified by something that is it. I looked up some reddit comments on the movie and its turning into a rabbit hole for warhammer 40k.
Superb acting by Lawrence Fishburne by the way. I don't know why this g.uy didn't become a bigger star.

Re: Just watched Event Horizon for the first time yesterday
One of my all time favorite movies for sure. Yeah I've heard about the Warhammer 40k connection thing which is silly. For the longest time, the movie's description has been 'Hellraiser in space' which I think is pretty accurate.
They just recently released the first and second issues of an Event Horizon comic which is a prequel to the movie. It tackles the events that happened on the ship before and after they initiated the gravity drive. Search for 'Event Horizon: Dark Descent' in google.

Re: Just watched Event Horizon for the first time yesterday
There's a much longer cut of the film that was screened for the studio. They were horrified, and had the film cut down by about 30 minutes. There was a lot more hell, mutilations and extreme gore. Sadly, the footage has since been damaged badly and cannot be recovered. Good ol' days of storing on films.Grudge wrote: ↑17 Nov 2025, 21:58That scene where they play the final log of the old ship crew fucked me up for the whole day. Re: Just watched Event Horizon for the first time yesterday
yeah i just saw it for the first time a couple years ago, and afterward i was like "damn ok what else did this hard-on bearer direct, time to go on a dive" and was very dismayed
i always thought lawrence fishburne did pretty well for himself? had some blockbuster roles, has been consistently working for like 40+ years. he's not tom cruise big i guess, but he's never really languished in obscurity or anything

Re: Just watched Event Horizon for the first time yesterday
There was a really interesting fan theory I read...somewhere...back in the day, that this is actually set in the Warhammer 40K universe, and Event Horizon's drive took the ship into the Warp for the first time in human history.
Which...kind of works. I'd love to see the extended version mentioned above...

Re: Just watched Event Horizon for the first time yesterday
Event Horizon never was marketable enough to become a multi-franchise like Alien, Predator and more. It's always going to be a standalone film. These new comics are essentially non-canon. The prequel is really good and is handled with care.jawn galliano wrote: ↑11 Dec 2025, 02:43cant anyone be content to just let a thing exist on its own
