Easily. Opening was pretty ruthless but then again the entire franchise is.

i'll add that while i haven't seen the holy mountain, if el topo is any indicator, watching jodorowsky on acid is certified insane person behavior. holy shit

I am watching Longlegs.
The only other movies I have watched this year are King Richard, La Mesita De Comedor, and the original Pinnochio.

Peeping Tom is excellent. You'll dig it.

Re: Now Watching
hell yeah
loved black narcissus, so i'm very much looking forward to peeping tom & the red shoes out of the bunch. couldn't resist and went back for more before the sale ended today, also got wings of desire, le cercle rouge, i am cuba & women in love (the sole not-4k of the bunch) en route as well. already seen wings but i'm going in blind for the rest
still have never seen gummo, that one's probably a torrent candidate. wasn't a fan of HK when i was young so i'm apprehensive but someday perhaps

If you like movies like Kids or Ken Park gummo will be for you if you like me are really not into them gummo is in the same vein
Peeping Tom is a classic thats being forgotten, with the resurgenceof giallo inspired films maybe other slasher precursors will be rediscovered too

Re: Now Watching
i absolutely hated kids when i saw it back in the day, but that was like 25+ years ago by now. so i'm somewhat distrustful of such an old and probably irrelevant impression. but it nonetheless lingers
and yeah i was kinda surprised to hear that peeping tom was roundly dismissed in its day and didn't really get any recognition until decades later. i don't think that kind of meta-cinema was novel by 1960, but i guess the way he went about it was too much for the audiences of the day

Re: Now Watching
I feel gross as an adult watching those graphic teen life dramas i guess it and eye trauma are my cinematic icks.
Yeah wild that movie is iver 60 amd wild it was treated like giallo films were but there are a few younger folks looking back into them now. Recent movies like Malignant and Last Night in Soho sparked a niche interest in them for some.
Of course those films will never be mainstream and remain cult classics/niche genres.

yeah i definitely hear you. i felt bad watching them even when i was close enough to the same age
i got a tad of that from andrea arnold's movies too, but they're... slightly less lurid and have a certain combination of class consciousness and humanity that redeem them. i don't imagine i'd get the same thing from korine, and i don't think it's important or necessary that he should take that tack. but also it's probably just not for me

i watched the red shoes last night and i think i'm going to follow it up with peeping tom tonight. incongruity excites me

my initial reaction was 'holy moly this might be the most efficient movie i've ever seen'. like there wasn't a shot or line or frame that felt superfluous or out of place or whatever. great, great film, i'm not sure where i stand on noir more broadly, but that was exemplary
yeah i was browsing the B&N selection and i think i'm actually safe for now (because i already bought a dozen in the last two weeks

i think i still have the original dvd boxset kicking around somewhere so i think i'm safe from that one. i will probably download the bluray version at some point just to have it in my library, but i have a hard time justifying spending twice on a series i've already watched several times

I finally got around to watching Dune (2021). I really enjoyed it, much better than I anticipated. solid plot, good acting, tasteful effects without becoming a cgi wankfest. I'll have to watch part 2 sometime soon.

ok, i finished the turin horse, and also women in love, a woman under the influence, and fat sexy leopard elevator. i didn't mean to get something of a titular theme going there but i might need to roll with it for a bit
not to say the remainder of the film was a walk in the park, but fat sexy leopard elevator's ending might well be the most shocking thing i've ever seen in a film. holy shit. it's a case where you could make a reasonable case that a warning is legitimately warranted, but would also severely undercut the impact so it's better not to have it. and i knew something was coming, it's impossible not to. but jesus fuckin' christ i was not prepared

wings of desire (again, this time in 4k)
take-out
anora
the latter in the ein cinema, and i think it was mostly fine, a funny-enough story about the overwhelming and irresistible power of accumulated wealth through the lens of a brooklyn stripper marrying the failson of a russian oligarch. but i'm baffled as to how this took the palme d'or, 2024 must've been mid city across the globe
