hey guys, here's some more cancer for us all. my mum was just diagnosed with lung cancer, and told one to two years max, based on its progression.

going to be spending a lot of the next few years in australia, it seems. it's super complicated as i have a 13-year-old half-sister and mum is a single mother with a mortgage, i am going to have to step in financially, but already support my in-laws here in thailand (who cannot return home because of the civil war).

one thing after another— COVID, coup, cancer. C is the accursed letter

You have my sympathies in this difficult time and I hope the suffering your mother has to go through is as minimal as it can be.

I hope that you will now consider also making some lifestyle changes for yourself. The heavy drinking you do is not only bad for your liver but that itself can increase your own chances of cancer. Health reasons aside, you should try to sober up so that you can handle better the many new responsibilities that may fall on your shoulder. And I think you should spend the upcoming times with your mother with as clear a head as you can.

chemo and immunotherapy for 13 weeks, then she gets scanned again, and we'll see how the cancer responds. but it's all about containment and buying time. mum still hasn't quite come to terms with it

no radiotherapy, nup. they offered it for the spine bone cancer but said it would make no difference to the overall treatment plan and would treat symptoms only, but her back pain is not bad enough to warrant it yet, so she declined

I have a lot to say about cancer. I choose not to go onto detail since it's a problem for a lot of families. I extend my deepest condolences, thoughts, and also prayers that folks be having a cure for it soon.

I buried one of my closest and oldest friends on Thursday from cancer. I would be a drastically different person today if not for her, most especially the two years we lived together. Everything feels really wrong and fucked up now. 46 is too fucking young.

it's all been playing through my mind the last week. Not that I ever thought I would die early, but I always thought she would outlive me for sure. I never even conceived of living in a world without her.

it's been a year since mum was diagnosed and she continues to work, down to half time so only 2.5 days per week, all of her tumors have grown, but so far her only symptoms (from the cancer, she's had heaps of bad ones from the treatment) are back pain and general tiredness. she got taken off immunotherapy very quickly as it nearly caused liver failure. she had no treatment at all for about six months. now she's on tiny amounts of a chemo drug. she's doing everything she can with alternative treatments, it's pretty incredible, valiant, heartbreaking. i'm trying to make the most of all this time. the trajectory is already clear, there's no going back, things are only getting worse and worse, but she's fighting super hard, and making the lifestyle changes when they need to be made with no fuss. it's all just so sad.

i desperately wish i'd had some recorded conversations or video of my dad. i only have a scrap or two of audio of him speaking. i really miss his voice. something to think about unfortunately.

My mum had cancer but luckily she recovered. She was already 80+ and it seems with age the cancer grows slower too.

Also there's a hard-on bearer at the club who was about to die from cancer but that was eight years ago and I see no change. So who knows.
