saw have a nice life tonight, wasn't really too excited before the show but man i'm glad i went. one of the best sets i've seen in recent years. lot of deathconsciousness material but it wasn't actually all that dreary and it really, really worked. incredible performance, pretty sure the show will be on youtube or otherwise made available, they filmed the whole thing and i believe they had multiple cameras.

HaNL were good but a little underwhelming when I saw them a few years ago. Maybe they've gotten their road chops down by now.

About to head to Molchat Doma in a few

it was kinda weird, DC was made by a person that was in serious distress at the time, and that album was a big part of my life when things were pretty dire. but dan is clearly very happy now, and it showed. i think that's what made the show feel kinda special, it had a kind of "look at us, we all made it" vibe to it. very celebratory, and i felt that in a big way. didn't click right away, but i got it 3 tracks in when they played bloodhail, and everything after that was magnificent.

Edibles are crazy. This is coming from someone who smokes herbage daily. Even low dose ones give you a gnarly full body high and they last forever.

Had to miss Obituary and Immolation a couple of weeks ago due to my dog being really ill, had to go to the emergency vet and shit.

But I had the opportunity to see Alestorm and Gloryhammer tonight. Met Christopher Bowes after the show and he commented on my 2009 Tyr / Alestorm shirt which was the last time I saw them (pretty sure we were both fucking wasted in said photo lol) It was an excellent show, glad I went! :xx:

This show was fucking killer. Only band that was kind of a let down was Cattle Decapitation (I’ve seen them so many times over the years that they just don’t do anything for me anymore). 200 Slab Wounds were fun, Dark Funeral and BlackBraid were kvlt as fvck!

Never really listened to Spiritworld but they were fun if not a little gimmicky. Death Angel, as usual, fucking owned - vocalist Mark can still hit all the high notes and sustain them which is impressive as hell.

It’s been a few years since I saw Sepultura and Kreator but they haven’t lost their touch. This was a co-headlining tour with both bands playing the same set time but changing off who closes. Kreator went on first while Sepultura closed out the show. Crowd was way into it and went fucking crazy for both!

went to see kayo dot in philly last night, spent a grand total of 16 hours in the city. holy shit, without question one of the best sets i've ever seen. seven-member ensemble packed onto the tiniest stage you could imagine, half of the band doing double-triple duty on instruments, sold out show with maybe a couple hundred people max? they played choirs of the eye in full for the 20th anniversary, the opening note of marathon was fucking thunderous, and it just instantaneously snaps you into a completely different mode of consciousness. band was super tight all night, the manifold curiosity was the obvious highlight. just phenomenal orchestration and performance. they did a second set of songs from the last album; void in virgo, the knight-errant, brethren of the cross, and get out of the tower.

i got dinner at monk's cafe before the show. hill farmstead single hop nelson, pliny the elder, and a duck salad sandwich

the drive down fucking sucked but the drive home ruled

Finally have igorr/melt banana on Monday after like 3+ years I think. Might do chat pile tomorrow, but it's been a busy weekend and I do have a show on the following day. That one is going to be a last minute decision.

Wolves in The Throne Room / Blackbraid / Gaerea. Great fucking concert, venue was packed to the rafter too which is always nice to see. Finally saw Gaerea (they were supposed to play here earlier this year) and they were intense! second time seeing Blackbraid and they were somehow even better this time around - these guys will be headlining shows soon enough. Wolves were great as always, they had candles and sage burning during their set which really set the atmosphere, really drew you into the music :grim:

also saw Cavalera and Exhumed last night - pictures didn't really come out - but it was a fun show nonetheless. surprisingly Exhumed didn't do the whole chainsaw act, just a straight up set of metal, but they sounded great. Cavalera was fucking awesome, set was completely old school Sepultura (Morbid Visions and Bestial Devastation) with an encore medley of Dead Embryonic Cells / Refuse/Resist / Territory / Troops of Doom / (and the end of) Morbid Visions to end the show. killer.
