by far yeah. tiche is the best IMO, mimic tear is right up there as well. it's slightly weaker than the former, but doesn't require FP so it works well for pure melee/no-MND builds

Not specific to Elden Ring (though he is NG+8 rn and working on 100%ing), but I am a proud dad. MiniAbzu surpassed me in gaming by a mile.

yeesh he has surpassed me and thensome i was working on a new NG file to prep for the eventual DLC a few months ago, but i can't remember where i left off. and probably i won't pick it back up again. incredible game, but i'm at a point in life where i've just kinda lost all interest in the medium

i decided to come out of retirement for it but i'm not sure i should've. haven't made much progress, it is fucking fruital on ng++ tho, first boss can one-shot me at ~40-45 vitality

i'm somewhat over halfway through the dlc. i've been co-oping most of the bosses with friends. it's incredibly difficult but i've been enjoying it, good exploration and i like the new zones

only played a few hours on sunday, might try and get some more exploring done this evening. currently at divine beast dancing lion and it is oppressive. hoping the scadutree blessing tweak will give me enough juice to close it out, got it down to 10%ish once so it's doable, but man it is rough

i used my mimic tear on him and somehow managed to do it on the first try. maybe i got lucky or i'm over-leveled but i was surprised. the next bosses made sure to put me in my place though

the discourse online about the "correct" way to play elden ring has become unhinged. the only meaningful way to beat a boss is to do it level 1, naked, and fists only. i think a lot of the bosses are tuned in such a way that you're expected to use a spirit ash summon. i tend to use my mimic whenever i can, i just don't have the patience lately to 1v1 a boss for 10-30 attempts

i respec'd to try out anvil hammer last night and beat dancing lion on the first go of course but yeah that fight in particular is fruital if you want to do it solo. first phase is manageable in that configuration (so long as you don't get grabbed) but the second is downright fucked if you're still running a standard base game stat spread at ~40 vitality. the chip damage from lightning mode will chunk you for like 25% per touch

but as much as i was enjoying myself last night, i couldn't shake the feeling of like, 'what am i doing here'. i've already put 200 odd hours into the game, and this is just... more of that. it's not bad of course, but i just don't think it's really what i want or need in my life anymore

Last time I played Elden Ring was more than a year ago. I remember killing Starscourge Radahn, Rennala Queen of The Full Moon and the gargoyle that splits into two in Nokron The Eternal City. I've got a levelled up Moonveil and Uchigatana. Somehow, after all that, I sarded the game. Perhaps I should install it again.

finished the DLC though i left a ton unexplored/untouched because i had everything i needed to clear it and didn't really feel like maxing out. last boss is incredibly stupid, i shouldn't have even won but my spirit ash snuck in the final hit quick enough after i died that it still gave me the win anyway. good riddance

dlc gave me the same feeling of wonder and exploration and difficulty as when i first started it, i loved it.

gaming mostly just feels like a chore now, and every time i decide to give it another chance i find myself resenting it more and more. sote was no exception, i burned out on exploration for its own sake in the main game and absent that, there really isn't much reason to scour the 85% of the expansion that's purely optional

the fight is such bullshit i fully encourage using whatever broken bullshit you can come up with just to get the win. i'm all for the fight being difficult given it's the capstone battle, but when most of the difficulty lies in whether you get lucky with the fight script it's really difficult to enjoy. would you like to summon a spirit ash? we'll let you get one out for free 10% of the time if you can instantly recognize the delayed opener, otherwise lol fuck you. also here's stunlock into back to back AoEs, guaranteed chip damage, your summon dies and you can't mitigate it and what the hell, your camera's fucked too, just for good measure. what, you wanted to interact after successfully defending? sorry pal, the boss is three miles over there now. but maybe if you succeed for five or six more ultra-aggressive offensive strings we'll let you get a poke in.

i crutched my way through with infused bloodfiend arm because i don't have the wherewithal to spend 50-100 attempts with a 'fair' build and quite frankly the fight doesn't deserve that level of respect

one problem with gaming is that like all interactive mediums, it has largely been hollowed out and replaced by addiction design. games are a product, the only goal of a product is to make money, and it's a lot easier to do that by abusing your audience than coming up with something that's actually fun or interesting or engaging on its own merits. the crack comparison is maybe a little overblown but the logic of addiction and dependence is consciously cultivated and exploited. most of the games industry should be rounded up and thrown in prison along with the gambling industry, social media industry, etc

i honestly was not a fan of most boss design in elden ring. a lot of them felt very spammy and it put me in this weird position where i don't know if i'm good enough anymore or if it's designed to be fought with some specific build, spirit ashes, etc. a win is a win or whatever but it sure doesn't give me that rewarding feeling i used to get from dark souls bosses. i remember thinking the super delayed wind up attacks were stupid right from the first major boss.

One thing I had to do was completely re change my set up for the DLC, casters seems to be fucked in this and it looks like they really changed the summon AI.

I had to go giga strength and bleed and blasted bosses doing that. I feel that is a weakness in their design if you want to use a mage for example and the bosses just rush you, all in all I really enjoyed it despite this.

yeah it's a problem with elden ring in general is some builds just plain don't work, it encourages abusing respecs into cookie cutter OP builds to get over a hurdle. it's nice that they littered the new map with tons of larval tears but also it would be nice if that weren't strictly necessary
