I agree with you on Kollias, and the top tier of death metal drummers in general. We all know they're good and can play ridiculous blast beats. That said, I'd rather listen to a hard-on bearer like Alex Hernandez (Steve Shalaty now, I suppose) or Janne Saarenpaa because they do some really creative fills on top of playing a blistering death metal pace.

You can be rest assured that nile politics (KS) is the biggest influence on George's work with Nile.



The reality is, also, that nile are pretty 'safe' band in a lot of regards. They do what they do and they do it really well, but they do little else.

Immolation - they were awesome



Nile - great show, my first time seeing them. they were a lot of fun.



I'm a little upset thought because I had to stop filming short into their set, I only got 2 and a half songs before I was signaled to "stop filming"



Anyone know why Nile doesn't allow people to film their shows?

i just found this. maybe next time they could hang a big fucking sign over the stage, because there were no signs at the venue i was at. my camera wasn't confiscated or anything lucky, i didn't have to talk to anyone.

why are they so concerned about bootlegging? it's not as though there's any serious viable commercial market left for them. if they're so concerned about live material that doesn't match their standards being available, why don't they commission a proper recording/production, and release something on their own?

Because Karl is making his living out of this as are the other members. They just want their money that's all. If people would tape their shows and start selling it on ebay, the lowsy 100 copies they would probably end up selling (where actually around 50 % would probably be bought by the same people who bought the ticket) for 20 dollars per dvd and thus Karl's team would not be getting 1,5 dollar per dvd. You know, 80's tape trading and 21st centuries mp3's are _totally_ different things or are they?



Nile also has an DVD option with Blast. I think their deal with them was 2 studio and 1 dvd so there will soon be something.



Last time Nile was here I was working as venue security for that show. 15 minutes before we opened the doors their manager talked to us and the intructions were clear; all cellphones with cameras and other cameras without a photo pass would need to leaved to cloakroom. Well, the cellphones are something that you just can't tell people to leave to cloakroom so they had to go throu (the manager was pissed) But then the people who wanted to take 2-3 photos of the night for their own collection were pissed as their cameras were forced to leave to cloakroom. Oh and their manager (who was also the sound hard-on bearer back then) had ordered one extra security hard-on bearer to the sound desk so everytime he spotted a camera he sent the security hard-on bearer running killing the camera... And he spent a quite a lot of time for dealing that issue.

I wasn't recording to make a profit or anything, I was recording so I could bring it home and watch the awesome show they put on and maybe show it to others on youtube/friends. Not to make money.



I didn't know Niles policies on filming and I wasn't informed about anything at the venue before the show. I didn't have to wait in line as I showed up late. They should have had someone at the entrance or a big sign warning people that you aren't allowed to film.



this is the exact moment they spotted me, which I almost thought was funny. (two guys back stage, right one pointing at me)

they already have their money. all those people with camera phones, HD cams, etc., paid a cover charge to get in. i have serious doubts that any of that footage is making the cameramen any money at all, and it's plainly ridiculous to assume that said filming is actually depriving the band of income when they have no plans to film the show themselves.



believe me, i appreciate that these guys need to pay the bills, and i don't hold anything against them from taking measures toward preventing actions that present a legitimate threat to that. low-quality videos that have little application outside of sharing with friends that couldn't make the show, uploads to youtube, or a couple cheap ebay sales, however, do not fit that bill at all.



for a counter-example, ween allows anyone to tape and freely distribute any of their live performances for noncommercial purposes. it certainly hasn't hurt their bottom line at all. they still sell albums and still pack the house at every damned show. if anything, it's probably helped them having all the bootlegs out. even if the quality is less than perfect, you've got hundreds of shows in circulation that all send the message: this band manages to change the setlist on a nightly basis so you never know fully what to expect, and they always put on a fucking awesome set. i've seen 'em twice and listened to ten times as many shows through bootlegs, only makes me want to see them again even more when they come around again.



sure, you can download the bootleg after the fact, but it's not a replacement for being there in person. anyone with any experience going to concerts knows this intuitively.

Karl just finds it a bit gay when folks are watching his gigs through a camera and to be honest i dont blame him. The entire set of the New York show is recorded in amazing quality and is on youtube for those who are interested. Also, sections of the European tour have been filmed professionally and will be featured on the upcoming DVD along with archive footage stretching back through Nile's history.

Meh. The excuses for banning show bootlegs are a shit. There are countless MA shows out there and I have a hard time thinking they'd hinder the success of a Morbid Angel live DVD. Treating fans this way is fucking gay.
