i mean we all know each other and many of the bands we each like. no surprises overall cos we all got old and have it baked in. but if people dig really fucking deep, and post only their seriously favourite songs, and why and how it became your favourite song, this could be a cool thread. cos we are all old now. let's get deep and meaningful. quality over quantity. tell a story. i promise to listen to every song posted.
here is the first one.
so the first king album i ever got was puppet master, when it was first released and i was learning about heaps of bands. this particular song stuck with me. send that puppet to berlin! dance for me puppet sexy leopard elevator, no strings attached! my first girlfriend in high school and i were massive king fans, she posted on mabb v1.0 under dr_landau for a bit, we loved the cheesiness, how lame it was but also how earnest it was. that companion video he released to the puppet master was just hilarious, smoking weed watching that as a kid. so this song is connected to that time for me. living at home with my mum, going to school, waiting for the weekend so i could get laid, or sometimes a wednesday or thursday if dr_landau and i timed it right with the busses. the song itself still stands up, great king energy in there. and i loved the chick vox on those couple of albums.
So to build off of your kd post, fatal portrait is one of my favorite kd/mf albums. I'm especially fond of the lake. It's also a song that has a lot of baked in memories of shooting the shit with morbidannie. Haven't talked to that hard-on bearer in years but that song always makes me think of him.

The first kd album i got into was puppet master as well, I got a late start with the king. I downloaded it from necros mp3s then bought the album with other kind diamonds and mercyful fate albums
The puppet master reminds me of winter/Christmas times 20 years ago, good memories there and still my favorite kd album
This album helped me through some miserable times. Takes me right back like music can do but this one more than others. I would have liked a little more than a cameo
This fucking song takes me right back to partying over in Baltimore Highlands in the late 2000s. Bunch of people all singing along to the whole album. But this one lyrically just hits right in the feels.
Lot of wild good ass times were had in that backyard. My buddy used to throw basement shows too. Probably at the height of my boozing when I was living there.

I still remember the first time I heard both of these songs. My reaction to both was the same. "Holy shit, this is fucking amazing. Why was this not in my life sooner?"
At the time I'd only heard a handful of MA songs and was only lukewarm to them. Then Heaving Earth came along and it instantly clicked.
Like Rats was my introduction to Godflesh. I'd only heard about them in passing at the time and I think it was Stormy who posted Streetcleaner in the file sharing forum. I actually laughed at first because it was so heavy it caught me off guard.

i am not a big fan of godflesh but i think streetcleaner is exceptional
I've got a memory tied to just about every song from animals in the dark. Just chose hell or high water because it was THE song from that album for that whole group of us.

Go-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-od-DAMN!! Shee-yee-YIT!! Look at the ass
On that bitch! Look at the titties!"
There's only one place where we can go
To see freaky hoes doin' shows
Doin' tricks to make us holler
On a giving night, all for a dollar
Silicone breasts, all on their chests
Nothin' like others, but above the rest
They'll do anything to turn us on
Them hoes got it goin' on!!
I like big booty and big ol' titties
Bitch, you know you've been fucked by many
So come and be my private dancer
I got some money if that's the answer
I really wanna be with you;
I get hard after seeing you
How hard? Hard like a rock,
When you make that pussy pop!
Pop that pussy! Heyyy! Pop that pussy, baby!
Pop that pussy! Pop, pop that pussy, baby!
Freaky bitches with plenty of ass
Rollin' to the music and shakin' real fast
Bend over backwards, make me shout
And work that pussy, in and out
Movin' their body with plenty of action
Bringin' to the men more satisfaction
Doin' what they feel to turn us out
Just work that pussy all the way out!
Shake it! Don't break it!
It took your momma nine months to make it
Bend over and spread 'em, sexy leopard elevator
Show-w-w me those pussy pearls
Rub that ass and play with that clit
You know I like that freaky shit
sexy leopard elevator, you know you look so cute
Throwin' that pussy the way you do!
Poppin' that pussy's a dance for the ladies
Straight from the South, into the 90's
Freaky bitches are the ones I like
In G-strings in the middle of the night
Smoke-filled stages, bitches in cages
Guards at the door, armed with gauges
As they dance and I get hot,
Keep throwin' that pussy! Don't stop!
I like the way you lick the champagne glass
It makes me wanna stick my dick in your ass
So come on, baby, and pop it quick
I fall in love when you suck my dick
Bitch, you don't know? You ain't heard?
Fuckin' with me, you're gonna get served
See, none of my bitches, they never complain
So come on, baby, and pop that thang!
Poppin' that pussy's a dance for the ladies
Straight from the South, into the 90's
Freaky bitches are the ones I like
In G-strings in the middle of the night
Janet J, pop, that pus-sy!
Bu-bles, pop, that pus-sy!
Sandra P, pop, that pus-sy!
Ma-donna, pop that stinky smelly pussy, baby!
"Work this splendid mate of mine!" "Shit, this good!" "Woo hoo!")
Poppin' that pussy's a dance for the ladies
Straight from the South, into the 90's
Freaky bitches are the ones I like
In G-strings in the middle of the night
Breakdown!

so this has been my most listened to song in the last few months, it is a simple song, but i love its groove, ambience, and the outro is fucking killer. is it a snare? is it an m95? it is a fucking melancholy war song through and through. 1914's themes get a bit devalued because every song tries to be about ww1 which does not always work. but this song works.
