yeah russian control of the territory east of the dneiper river is basically locked in. they won't occupy kiev, but ukraine will have no hope of recapturing the lost territory. realizing this, zelensky will attempt to negotiate a ceasefire and whatever hardliner azov elements still survive at that point will assassinate him with the US' blessing.
Not to trivialize the matter, but borders change all the time, and disputes happen in the process. Sometimes maybe it's better for populations to formally separate if they're not fundamentally on the same page.
However I think in this case the U.S. obviously has gone well out of its way to turn the matter into a political football to distract from at-home policy failures. Sadly it's nothing new. At any rate, if the fighting gets intense enough maybe there will have to be a DMZ or something, or an East Ukraine. Either way nothing stays the same forever.
Russia continues to pull troops from Georgia to fight in Ukraine, Georgia takes the opportunity to expel all Russian forces and reclaim their country.
Continued civil unrest in Russia forces Russian vice squad to crack down, which so far has not worked and has actually emboldened Russian citizens. Eventually Russia will realize the situation is out of hand and will ask for help....China? lol, surely nothing could unite a divided people like an invading foreign enemy.
Ukraine has made substantial progress in taking back territories and has continued to decimate Russian forces with international backing. as such the war has become a proxy war and is unlikely to escalate further unless Russia decides to invade other counties like Poland, Finland, etc in which case we'll have WWIII on our hands. NATO is at the ready just in case.
Putin has threatened using nuclear weapons but most seem to think it is nothing more than a bluff - the pathetic performance of the Russian military on the battlefield and the conditions of equipment has led many to speculate whether their nuclear arsenal is even launch capable.
Economic sanctions will continue until Putin is out - the rest of the world has had enough with many European countries actively expelling from their countries suspected Russian espionage agents who worked as diplomats.
Peace talks will not happen in a serious manner until all Russian troops are pushed to the border - the so called cease fires and peace talks so far have been nothing but political posturing on part of Russia.
Russian involvement in US politics has become more apparent every day as the war and economic sanctions drag on - get ready for lots of distractions by the republicans as they attempt to deflect this information.
it didn't become a proxy war, it has always been one
ukraine is the pawn america is trying to sacrifice to draw russia into a prolonged bloody conflict. either in a foolish and futile attempt to try and extend our already-passed unipolar moment, or in a bid to try and dictate the shape of the forthcoming world order
anyone with any power in the US is a combination of very stupid and completely insane though so most likely the former
Debt based economies cant continue indefinitely. unless major changes occur in the us the world will drop the dollar and this war is a huge part of that. I personally am terrified of everything to come because i dont know if it will be a slow or fast colla.pse and I think we all should be.
looks like Ukraine is on the offensive outside it's borders now.
a couple of days ago near Belgorod an ammunition plant exploded (thought not officially credited to Ukraine, may have been sabotage or simple Russian disregard for safety). This morning however Ukraine did fly two helicopters unopposed into Russia and blew up an oil depot in Belgorod - Russian Defense denied it while the soon to be ex-regional governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said on messaging app Telegram that "two Ukrainian helicopters struck the facility in Belgorod, some 35 kilometres (22 miles) from the border with Ukraine, after entering Russia at low altitude." video footage from multiple angles has surfaced
in other news Russian troops stationed in Chernobyl have suffered acute radiation sickness after digging trenches in the area it is reported that a small contingent has remained but most of the troops stationed there have evacuated.
predictions? at this point anything seems possible.

you know, in the back of my head i've been thinking that russia cannot be as incompetent as what i hear and then this pops up in the news
most of the russian incompetence rhetoric is just the unfiltered id of the western war industry and its cheerleaders in the american state media. it has little basis in reality. the information environment this war has produced in the US is markedly worse than even the run-up to the 9/11 wars.
Id rather be surprised with politics ive decided. Though i cant help but read up and get depressed at how corrupt everything and everyone is.
This isn’t for this thread but i deal directly with cali state gov on the daily and it is depressing. I can advocate for myself and I advocate for my brother but i always think of vulnerable people (elderly, vets, disabled) who have nobody like many of my former clients and students and thats just American disability services where we actually have a form of disability rights which i am thankful for.
despite Russia making threats for doing so - Finland and Sweden both are on track to join NATO as soon as possible.
Prediction: the West knows that Russia in it's current state cannot sustain a two front war and there is serious doubt about Russia's missile launch capability, thanks largely due to corruption and neglect. They are essentially calling Putin's bluff.
why have sovereignty when you can instead be controlled by america. you can always do without heat for a few years while the rest of the continent sets up its infrastructure for the importation of american LNG to replace russian gas. the people will love that, they'll love the acceleration of the selling off of the public commons, just like we've been loving it for the past 40 years over here in america.
He is also a homophobe. He agreed to serve only two terms, I guess he lied there. Robbing the russian people of their natural wealth. I don't agree with his views and neither do you Vamphy It's important to consider other people's opinions but this hard-on bearer is an idiot His view on NATO is also wrong
