Mac and cheese depends on the part of the country and green beans are a green with a lot of extras.

It's a southern maryland thing, specifically St. Mary's County!droidspawn wrote: ↑21 Nov 2021, 10:22Ain’t ever heard about this stuffed ham business. Tell me more.
Take your traditional ham and stuff that bitch with cabbage, kale, onion and a handful of various seasoning. Plenty of variations on it of course, my personal fave is some combo of collard/mustard/kale and up the spice factor.

Re: Thanksgiving plans?
spatchcock (butterfly) the turkey and rub that bird with olive oil and seasoning before putting it in the oven. It cooks in like a third/half of the time and comes out moist.

I’ll be working and getting some mad overtime / holiday pay. Next weekend my sister in law is flying in from upstate New York, maybe we’ll do a big dinner then but otherwise I’m not sure yet. Might just do a standing rib roast or get a good ham for Thursday.

pre-dawn run
taking the pup on a long-ass morning hike to wear him the fuck out
cooking food
taking the pup on another long-ass walk through the park to wear him the fuck out again before people arrive
cooking more food
eating an edible before people arrive
having people over to eat the food
going to bed early

Do you find running keeps your weight under control or do you do it more so for the mental benefits?

I’ve been into edibles and herb smokage since I got together with my fiancée. Really takes the edge off and no calories unlike booze!

Re: Thanksgiving plans?
50% mental and 50% physical but the physical part has little to do with weight, it's just to stay in decent shape. i would have to run 30-40+ miles per week to lose weight from itdroidspawn wrote: ↑23 Nov 2021, 21:37Do you find running keeps your weight under control or do you do it more so for the mental benefits?
i lost a bunch of weight in the spring doing all that sheet mulching and eating less. also losing most of my appetite for alcohol, which you know all about

but i brew, i drink, i research, i live the alcohol
i would be really happy running more from a fitness point of view, easy, but it's my joints and muscles that let me down, i wish i could run on grass around here, i assume it would be better and i could go further

Re: Thanksgiving plans?
the best laid plans.....
So I spatch-cocked a turkey and dry-brined a it overnight, took it out of the fridge and placed it on the counter so that I could fire up the grill. I came back inside to the pan on the floor with half the turkey on the floor. the other half was across the house in my dog's bed.....
luckily the store had so many unsold turkey's that they have me a free replacement that turned out good but not nearly as good as that bird would have been.
