speaking of one-note, all the songs on the second disc kind of blend together for me, nothing really stands out

the first disc there's some of that going on, but there's enough different shit happening that i can distinguish easily between synth gloom (skeletons of splendor) and country gloom (the beast, which rules), and brann gloom (teardrinker), and spooky primus gloom (sickle and peace) and so on

also the outro to pain with an anchor is fucking massive

the second disc is kinda just gloom, i am not getting a ton of difference or vibes track to track just yet

Had it all, dagger, skeleton of splendor, and eyes of serpents couldve and should’ve been left off imo. Peace and tranquility too. Even though Brent sings on it it’s super boring.

Boom, then you are down to a 10 track, concise album.

i appreciate it the skeletons of splendor

really really surprised by the last three tracks in particular. i expected something massive - either huge crushing riffs or huge exploratory outer space / innervision stylings. instead those songs are just kinda slow and repetitive, not either thing at all really

i wonder if they were so very shook by grief and pandemic confusion that they forgot some songwriting things

yeah i meant to say just green. hushed reminds me of yellow (because it is concise and has better songs) and grim reminds me of green (because it is not those things so much)

and these songs are almost all too long. mastodon challenging metallica for the six + minute song crown

pain with an anchor is the best track on here, there is a beautiful urgency to it

brann's vocals are melodic against the a-melodic riff, it is a bittersweet thing to behold

the outro is massive; the chanting beneath the band is ominous

the crux is awesome, it is probably the best vocal melody on the album as well as troy's best singing

who is doing the screams in the chorus behind him, i want to say it's brent but it might just be troy double-tracked

I listened to the entire thing another late last night in bed. After tides, the tracks blend together.

I still can’t remember specific parts of the last 4-5 songs.

yeah, i remember that dagger is kind of weird and unstructured, had it all is a cheesy arena ballad, and savage lands is heavy but doesn't do much

i'm warming to the first disc more and more. beautiful flow to those tracks

more than i could chew got built up too much for me, everyone was talking about how the riff was just the most massive fucking thing in the world. it's not that but it is a nice big fat riff. now that i am back to earth i can start appreciating it the track

also gigantium is a good one, that outro is biiig
