90's Dimmu Borgir

Post by Mesarthim »

Enthrone Darkness Triumphant was one of the first black metal albums I remember buying (I think I bought Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk at the same time) that was on regular rotation for quite a while.

and then of course their immediate follow up Spiritual Black Dimensions was phenomenal.

their early work For All Tid and Stormblast were great too, but the two those albums above were certainly something special at the time.

their albums 2000 and onward were kind of hit and miss, overall meh. I mean, the keyboard work that Mustis did for them and the great cleans that Vortex brought were great - but I couldn't really get into the post-2000's albums as much. :ryan:

EDT is a pivotal milestone in my discovery of music. I still regularly spin it from time to time and it never gets old.

That was a time when metal bands automatically get shit when they become successful enough to be put on Ozzfest. No surprise there.

I tried giving puritanical a listen last night after having not listened to it for probably 15+ years. I can appreciate some aspects of it but overall it just comes across as so damn cheesy.
