New Texas laws

Post by vO)))id »

So are all those people who moved to Texas from California joining The Satanic Temple to avoid these hideous new laws?

They do realize a heartbeat is heard at 6 weeks right? That’s insane. I hope there is a medical exemption this issue isn’t black and white.

Permitless carry bugs me a lot to.

Some good ones but mostly shit.

they understand perfectly well that six weeks is effectively a ban on all abortion. it is indeed black and white; transferring every last iota of control and power away from common people is an imperative that the ruling class has doggedly pursued for decades.

Its not black and white because it isn't birth control. It’s a medical procedure and usually thought through. There are cases birth control fails and it is a choice as well.

There are situations like the fetus is anacephalic, the mother wouldn’t know until between 16 and 18 weeks

It's funny how obsessed with abortion Republicans are, yet if a bill was brought up proposing mandatory vasectomies that can be reversed only when the male has shown he can adequately care for a child and they'd lose their minds.

It's never been about babies. It's about controlling women's bodies.
Impotence is God's will! Let's ban all them ed pills.

arent your claims about their motives just speculation though. and even if you are correct.. arent the laws determined by the population voting, rather than a bunch of country club members?

and if you are in favor of abortion more generally than those rape type situations, i think it is more honest to justify it in the general case rather than use the rape situation to justify abortion in general

ultra-wealthy conservative factions of the ruling class control most of the state-level legislatures and they also control the federal supreme court (and barring its total abolition or a radical restructuring, they will maintain that control for the remainder of our lives). people do not vote on legislation, they vote on candidates who are mostly all hand-picked by the various factions of the ruling class.

It’s not even about control it’s just stupidity. Pro-lifers do not even understand most abortions are medical or failed birth control. Most people do not understand what an abortion actually is or a fetus vs a baby.

We definitely need to stop making sex taboo and teach kids about it. They shouldn’t have to learn basics on their own or from the internet. I can tell you first hand it messes you up being super sheltered. Contrary to pppular belief education doesn’t increase teen sex or pregnancy.

It's an extremely personal choice no one should have to justify.
people who act like the human pops into existence at birth are as bad as the religious nuts who think there is some magical soul in the baby or that abortion is a sin. they are either ignorant of the facts, or deliberately ignoring them.

it is a distinct human organism at fertilisation. this is undisputable fact. most people are against the killing of humans. so to justify abortion they need to say in what circumstances they think it is ok, and why. and it is not good enough to do what a lot of people do, which is to use distancing terminology like "embryo" or "ball of cells" as if that is an argument. or to say "i dont believe it is a person" or whatever. this is semantics that is, as i said, either due to ignorance or faked ignorance.

in what circumstances is it ok to kill a human, generally? if someone tries to justify abortion by saying things like its brain isnt developed enough, then should we be allowed kill retards or demented people, etc? how functioning should a brain be? and its brain is no more developed the day after its born versus the day before it was born, so unless you are invoking some kind of religious-esque magical happenings at birth where it transitions into a "human", then, to be consistent, shouldnt it be just as ok to kill it for some time after birth?

It's a philosophical issue that needs more than analogies to advance the discussion. Analogies can be a never ending discussion about something through comparisons alone rather than evaluating it on its own merit. Is it OK to kill and eat plants? It's a distinct living organism. What about cows? Why should it be OK to eat cows? Cows aren't clever animals.

Try to present your objection or support for a concept without the use of analogies.

It's a philosophical issue that needs more than analogies to advance the discussion. Since you enjoy analogies so much, why don't you bring plants into the picture? Is it OK to kill and eat plants? It's a distinct living organism. What about cows? Why should it be OK to eat cows? Cows aren't clever animals.

what analogy? saying a bad argument is religious-esque?

anyway, im fine with broadening the question to be in what circumstances and why is it ok to kill a living thing. im obviously fine with killing plants.

i think that broader question is actually a useful place to start if someone is trying to come up with a logically consistent point of view on abortion, death penalty, euthanasia, and ethics of killing animals, etc. the alternative is that someone is to declare a point of view on abortion and then have to try and apply their argument consistently to the other situations

im not saying the issue has an obvious answer. ive actually spent considerable amounts of time thinking about it and i dont have an answer. people tend to think i am against abortion because if someone says they are in favor, i tend to question them about it. and it irritates me when they give the same old bullshit non-arguments as everyone else does

Absolutely this.

The government should have zero say over what anyone does with their body.
:santa:

A more practical point, ban abortions and they will take place anyway in illegality. Dangerous :oldryan:

Guys arguing about abortion is hilarious.
obviously the rights of the woman factor in. so do the rights of the father. so do the rights of the child/embryo/whatever you want to call it.

if you think it is ok that the unborn child/embryo/whatever you want to call it, be killed in some circumstances. then what are those circumstances, and why?

rather than making dumb jokes, how about saying making an argument to defend whatever your point of view is?

the baby lives at the mercy of the mother, inside the mother's body, until born. the baby may be alive but it is not sovereign. the mother's body came and comes first. she can do whatever she wants with her body including killing any parasite. she may be on the way to delivering a new life into the world, which she may cherish and love blah blah, but until the bub is out of the vag, she can do whatever the fuck she wants to herself (and by extension the baby).

therefore, abortion clinics on every corner! hooray

note this is the red line, i believe the government should provide many services to help women make informed decisions etc. don't write what i said in a booklet
