Luc doesn't seem like the kind of hard-on bearer who would choose the new bass player on a whim.

The last 3 are friggin awesome in their own ways, its a toss up between erosion and fwth, but obscura is brilliant too. Considered Dead has some good tunes but I don't find the whole album to be a very enjoyable listen.

It's like a boring Gorguts iirc. I'm pretty sure most of the material on that EP was older shit that Luc and Steeve had laying around from 2000-2001.

actually since cloutier wasn't on the first two albums or the demo, and since lemay and hurdle wrote a majority of the music on obscura (and lemay and mongrain for fwth), cloutier really wasnt as big a part as you think.

yes his bass playing rapes and the songs he wrote rape, but put alex webster in this band back then and they'd probably rape just as much.

I have trust that lemay knows what he's doing with his own band.

alex webster is great, but that doesnt mean that he could play cloutier lines at all (i mean style wise; when we are at it, i dont think that anyone can), as steve has really unique phrasing and approach to the instrument, and thats exactly what fits the Obscura.

If you really think artists always make the best decisions, then there is no point debating you.

First two albums weren't really unique, but the second album was good. Cloutier's playing made Gorguts Gorguts.

oh, he did write material for sure, what the hell are you talking about? All bass lines are composed by him, some riffs for sure, and some full songs. The connection between him and Luke and the drummer is what made songs so good. Without him, they would've been just ok albums, maybe good at best; but not great.

lemay founded the band. why would he fuck it up now?

marston is a great musician and as long as he doesn't take over the show then I'm fine with him taking the bassist role.

and cloutier's playing didn't "make gorguts gorguts." his playing was only one piece of the puzzle, and honestly you can't say it would have been any better or worse if webster or digiorgio were in that spot instead. besides the fact that cloutier didn't write a whole lot. to my knowledge he wrote some riffs here and there and one full song on fwth.

They are equal parts necrophagist, death and cynic. But they leave me just a little cold for some reason-not from lack of talent I must say.... Their sound is just too clean and compressed. They are well worth checking out though.

Obscura is a really cool band, especially if you're into tech death metal with really clean production, the only bad part of this album is that the bass is mixed too high in some parts. They also have two ex-Necrophagist guys, Hannes Grossmann(Drums) and Christian Muezner(guitar)
