Activision-Blizzard lawsuit
So just how big is this anyway? Is it all over the news in the US?
Hopefully, this will not push back the timetable of diablo 4

Sexual harassment cases in the office, supposed ‘frat boy’ culture, someone committed suicide because of it
At least those were the general terms to take note of in a quick google search

Literal cube crawls, it’s pretty disgusting and par for the course in the gaming industry. I will spare you gentlemen an angry rant because normal folks know this isn’t okay.
Apparently they hired based on how “hot” the women were, saying this is frat boy culture is an insult to frats if the allegations are true.

So this happened on the Blizzard's side and Activision sued them? Or the other way around? Or are they both getting sued by someone else?
It's horrible.

Thanks for the video.
Lack of any leadership, horrible culture, but in the end... human nature. It's completely fucked up and it will happen when there is no good leadership within a company.
This is so disgusting. I'm completely done with them.

if people did terrible things, they should be held accountable. but it bothers me that in situations like this most people seem to just assume the accused is guilty of whatever the accuser says. or even assume they are guilty of everything some facebook post speculated they were guilty of
but culture is such that even pointing this out will tend to get people outraged as if i was condoning rape or something

ah yes, let's extend the benefit of the doubt to an american company -- american mega-conglomerates in particular really get the short end of the stick when you think about it. and further to an american company in an industry that has for its entire existence, always been notorious for fostering the exact kinds of work environments laid out in the state's complaint.
everyone thinks they're a fucking judge and they need to do this high-minded presumption of innocence bullshit. "won't someone please think of fuckin' bobby kotick and activision-blizzard's fundamental rights" lol

don't worry, the company isn't going to actually be punished in any meaningful way. i know it's very difficult to see people assuming the worst about a multinational corporation controlled by a bunch of bloodthirsty demons, but i promise the activision c-suite is going to walk away from this totally unscathed and further that there will be no interruption in the annual call of duty release schedule

Re: Activision-Blizzard lawsuit
To me this case is indicative of a societal problem. There is a vocal minority who feel emboldened to act like pigs working as a para i saw things i never thought I would. I saw and heard people catcalling disabled students, hitting on disabled students, not only disabled but under age.
My experiences I freely admit I am more apt to believe allegations than before because, while most people are normal fucking human beings, there are some true “gems” out there. The most frustrating thing most will never have any consequences for their actions but that’s life it isn’t always fair.

yes it is bad that some people get away with shit that they shouldnt. the answer to this is not to assume everyone did whatever they are accused of. because it is also bad for someone to be falsely accused of something and have their life ruined when they did nothing wrong

blizz president bailed and they threw a woman in the drivers seat, problem solved
i don't doubt any of this stuff happened but it does make me wonder why the offended women don't immediately leave. if you managed to get a job at blizzard you're probably above average on the employ-ability scale. i know that's not the answer to workplace harassment but it is kind of interesting. excluding needing employment, i wonder if it has something to do with the prestige of working somewhere like blizzard. i'm sure it's not unique to blizz or the game industry in general. some people idolize these game dev jobs like they are top fucking tier or something but in reality its still just bullshit work

I had a fri.end who was falsely accused, it’s why I still try to check my own personal bias but given how powerful activision is it’s hard to in this case. Also their statements have been ridiculously inept.Verbal wrote: ↑03 Aug 2021, 23:39yes it is bad that some people get away with shit that they shouldnt. the answer to this is not to assume everyone did whatever they are accused of. because it is also bad for someone to be falsely accused of something and have their life ruined when they did nothing wrong

VV has been an inhouse activision studio for nearly 20 years, one of my best friends used to work there. the recent blizzard 'acquisition' is just an internal reconfiguration, and she is not new to the company so it is not a situation where they just hired some nobody off the street
that said anyone taking the job is signing up first and foremost to crush employee organizing efforts so in that regard i hope she fails miserably

"Baseless assumptions"? It seems you are doing what you are accusing these illogical people of doing. How did you conclude these accusations are baseless? If you say this should be left to the court to decide if there is merit in an accusation, then stick to it.Verbal wrote: ↑03 Aug 2021, 21:44it matters because it is reflective of a lack of logical thinking in society. and it is naive to think this isnt a problem.Grudge wrote: ↑03 Aug 2021, 21:18So? Re: Activision-Blizzard lawsuit
my lifetime of experience dealing with people in person and online gives me no confidence that a random sample of people can come to a reasonable conclusion based on reasonable evidence on almost any issue. this is my default assumption about everyone unless i have reason to think otherwise. i think there is a serious lack of logical thinking in our society. this is hardly a controversial opinion. didnt you even say "So? This is nothing unusual or new to our times." you also said "thats why courts exist", but it is naive to think that just because they are part of the "courts" that a jury is significantly more reasonable that any other groupGrudge wrote: ↑04 Aug 2021, 01:29"Baseless assumptions"? i believe we may have uncovered a cultural difference, it must be a european thing that juries are assembled for the purposes of solving logic puzzles. here, they are used in resolving certain legal disputes, therefore it is of no concern that the average juror is not impressive to the self-described rationalist set. also american jury pools are not drawn from a sample that is representative of the wide population

They should be looking at the evidence, first and foremost. I don't think that's the same thing as logic. What is the meaning of logic to you, as it pertains to social issues and settling legal cases or taking a stance on something? Can you give an example of the application of logic to this situation?

Ok. And so in this situation you are saying that the logical thing to do is for there to be no public uproar, everybody just keeps quiet until the case gets settled in court, no kicking up a fuss that can help get an issue prioritized. Like robots or something.

Re: Activision-Blizzard lawsuit
Look I'm somewhat in agreement with you that mob rule isn't great. But social progress doesn't occur in any way other than messy. Don't forget that if it weren't for the public uproar and outpouring of critiques you're seeing there would not be this day of reckoning for powerful interests who would otherwise never be held accountable. If any bad practices did occur in this company, and they have been happening for years, that shows that somewhere in the system there is a failure. Oppressive interests can continue with their status quo of oppression undisturbed because the legal system can even be rigged to side with them.

maybe i should have been clearer when i said "situations like this". what i said is hardly irrelevant though. and even though there may be a specific case in this thread, are there many "facts" beyond news reports and "he said/she said"?
