Was Reminded of This Creepy Website

Post by Noyka »

http://www.opentopia.com/

It’s a livestream of tons of webcams and unsuspecting victims.

Reminds everyone only of what we know is out there much less what we don’t know, how little privacy there is now.

It’s not just the passwords, people forget that anything connected to the internet is at risk of being hacked. There are stories of “smart” hotels with their lights all connected to “smart” technology being hacked and basically there was an all night light show.

It’s funny but at the same time a bit interesting now.

Slight tangent but I despise windows (least secure OS) if I didn’t need to use it to work my cricut I would get rid of it.

the easiest access to iot devices is default credentials, a lot of people don't change passwords on their ip cams, lights, routers, etc. most of the time nothing is being 'hacked', it's just insecure and anyone can access it if they know what to look for.

windows security is actually fine, most security issues imo are user based (phishing, downloading, etc). windows being the most popular os means it's the most attacked. it's very likely that there are linux distros and mac builds that are actually way more vulnerable to being compromised, they are just less targeted.

Hacked/cracked/breached I’m clearly not an expert you’re more qualified to speak on the issues I only know what I’m told/shown to do by friends/read about.

you're nearly guaranteed to be fine on any computer as long as you aren't downloading random files, clicking links in emails you don't recognize, keep software up to date, never connect to unsecured networks when you're away from home, etc
