Just finished a Night Vale book, The Old Faceless Woman Who Secretly Lives in Your Home. It was really good.

I recently had back surgery so I was out on my ass at my parent's house for a couple weeks. In that time I read:

Of Mice and Men
Fahrenheit 451
Trouble is my Business (short stories by Raymond Chandler)
Based on a True Story (Norm MacDonald's fake memoir)

Its better and the story lines are very different.
Goes much deeper and its a lot darker sometimes.

But the characters in the tv show are absolutely the same as in the book. Their casting is perfect.

I'm in book 5 now.

i've really been diving headfirst into deep politics and conspiracy stuff the last couple weeks which is just totally exhausting. you have to spend a lot of energy on identifying and weeding out the crank shit which is abundant, and even the good stuff requires a lot of care and focused skepticism. i put empire's workshop on pause for now, gonna do a rerun of blood meridian before i do more nonfiction. got another one on deck about the CIA and charles manson which i think will be pretty interesting

It’s the lives of cadavers/how we deal with the dead from body farms, cremation, all of it written in a non-morbid and slightly irreverent way. It’s easy to digest and a quick read. I’ve passed it around to family members like I did when I first read Parasite Rex but that book is so old now I need to re-read it to see if it’s still relevant.

i think the summary conclusion is that there is almost certainly no hope for a better world. we zoomed past the last offramp where that was possible before we were born.
