Re: coronavirus in this region
Cheapo discs in Moorhead was “that” record store for me. The sheer amount of new daily stock of old cds/vinyls they got was mind blowing. And they were always open until midnight or 1am. Looking back on it I still can’t believe such an amazing record store existed like that around here. It was part of a handful of cheapo records/discs that was were based in Minneapolis. That’s probably why it was able to sustain the amount of stock they did. Pretty sure they just had crates of used cds shipped in every day day from the Minneapolis/St. Paul/St. Cloud locations. Looks like there’s 2 Minneapolis locations left and one on Blaine. Like you guys said, I’d be really surprised if they pull through this

My sister just told me, and I quote, “I think it’s a joke at this point.” She’s had her 3 year old back in daycare for 2 weeks already since they opened back up. oh and she doesn’t have a job. Actually hasn’t worked since 2015. Can’t even take care of her own kid. I love her but Jesus fucking Christ is she stupid.

Schools are officially closed for the rest of the school year. But golf courses, playgrounds and shit like that are open as of 7am tomorrow. Still have to follow all the group rules and wear a mask but it's not like people give a fuck about that anyway.

Re: coronavirus in this region
I start a furlough that at the latest will last up to early August on Monday. So now I'm trying to figure out a bunch of activities to fill all the free time with.
Since my brother in law has a small farm about 90 minutes south of me I might try to give him a hand with some stuff for a while. He does a lot of his own maintenance on the equipment so it could be a good learning experience. Plus he has an awesome dog he takes down there with him. The dog knows what the word "farming" means, so when it's said in an excited way he goes nuts. It's pretty funny

Re: coronavirus in this region
a lengthy & illuminating chronology of the US corona response from edward luce at the FT. free to read, hopefully no login is required. let me know if it's registration-walled, i can copy-paste here if necessary
https://www.ft.com/content/97dc7de6-940 ... 1e24b679ed
on the whole it's pretty withering considering the FT's ideological bent mostly mirrors the deranged pages of the WSJ editorial section, but polite.
i think they are unduly pessimistic about his reelection prospects, however. these are unprecedented times, and his presumptive opponent is barely campaigning, doing so poorly when he does, and can't raise money besides. i really don't think past precedent based on economic indicators is really relevant here (or as relevant as biden operatives, meaning most of the Serious Commentators in the media sphere would like for it to be, anyway).
we saw the same faulty logic in play in 2004-2006 with the financial priesthood declaring that the data showed everything will continue to be great and that based on current trends the trees of prosperity will continue to explosively grow forever, eventually blotting out the sun altogether, all based entirely on irrelevant and outdated assumptions (e.g., historical default rates that didn't take into account the abolition of lending standards and credit rating agencies' complicity in boosting the positions of the major investment banks' interests, who they depended on for their bottom line).
all the while, alarms were blaring from those who saw the rampant fraud fueling the boom, and they all got ignored by the mainstream press because nobody sounding them had an ad budget. i suspect the same dynamic might be in play here.

Re: coronavirus in this region
People are going insane here in this period. Hogan moved the state to phase 1 but allowed the counties to decide when and what that would look like for themselves. The center of the state is the hardest hit so of course each county has put some restrictions or just didn't move to phase 1 at all. This is the first time I haven't agreed with what Hogan is doing, all its gonna do is send people from closed or restricted counties to ones where everything is open and likely cause a spike in everything. Of course the ones that are fully into phase 1 are the more rural counties here so it's gonna be an absolute shit show!
Downtown Annapolis, Ocean City and just about anything along the water was fucking slammed yesterday because of restrictions being lifted and the weather being in the 80s.

Re: coronavirus in this region
Here's an odd development from all this:
Because I'm on furlough and had no life to begin with I've been going on 5-7 mile walks every day. Part of those walks have been down a wooded path that runs along a huge cemetery (Lakewood). On the way home I noticed part of the fence had been tampered with and I could actually get through it (usually the front gates are the only way to get in or out). So like an idiot I crawled through and immediately got lost. Then for the first time in years I had a really bad panic attack while aimlessly walking on top of dead people while desperately trying to get home...
