It's really strange that, of all different ways people are harming the planet, people choose to focus in on global warming.

Environmentalists with any integrity should be more focused on the depleted uranium that the military is littering the planet with, among other things. Compared to that, my neighbor's gas-usage isn't much of a concern.

Depleted uranium is...uhm...depleted? As in...not radioactive?

Yep, extremely little. Just highly poisonous like any other heavy metal like lead, but not radioactive like fissile uranium, radon, etc. Depleted U is used as a counterweight in the nose of airplanes because of its high density, you don't see airline pilots or frequent travelers getting cancer do you? It isn't anywhere near as dangerous as a lot of people think, just not something you want to be scattering around(depleted U shells were used in the Gulf War, since they could burn through tank armor, but the debris was pulverized and scattered kilometers across, harming a lot of civilians because of the high toxicity, but NOT radioactivity).

Catacat that page isn't loading for me. If that was what the article is about, it doesn't make sense. Radioactive fallout from testing nuclear weapons above ground however does indeed reach all parts of the world, is that was that page was about?

And the last strip is nowhere even close to being grounded in reality. For one people need to stop thinking Al Gore is any kind of authority, he is a not an active scientist but a lawyer/politician, just like all the loudmouths in the denier camp.

Read any major astro/geophysics journal from any part of the world or consult world-renowned meteorological institutes and NASA's satellite data on sea level, sea temperature, and atmospheric temperature. Either it is real or the entire global enterprise of scientific inquiry -publicly and privately funded research, from developed countries or poor ones- is conspiring. Which is more likely?

If someone wants to say fairies or solar flares are responsible for the recent trend and not CO2, they're welcome to perform some research and submit their findings to a peer-reviewed journal or present their evidence in front of a science tribunal. Until then, its just red-faced loudmouths talking way out of their league.

Well in fairness, you do, but I presume this doesn't occur at a higher rate than the average though :redneck:

The answer is pretty obvious to anyone with a couple functioning brain cells to rub together, but considering how many dumb and wrong ideas manage to get serious traction in the public, especially in the realm of politics (the same realm which has co-opted climate research for its own purposes) it is no surprise to me at least that there are a lot of people willing to put a stake in the latter.

Evidence? Who needs evidence when you can manufacture a controversy by misinterpreting a bunch of emails and cherry-picking quotes that sound super damning when taken out of context? And we can give it a catchy name, too, like Climategate!

Uranium isn't even as poisonous as lead. Secondly, it's obviously used because of its stability and density to raise the potential of the kinetic energy of a weapon, so if it pulverized easily, it wouldn't be used.

Actually, part of the Uranium pulverizes upon the impact of munitions. It is indeed less toxic than lead, mercury and other metals but it is still not something anyone wants to be handling unprotected.

From wikipedophile:

<!-- m -->http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Depleted_u ... iderations<!-- m -->
Normal functioning of the kidney, brain, liver, heart, and numerous other systems can be affected by uranium exposure, because in addition to being weakly radioactive, uranium is a toxic metal.[5] DU is less toxic than other heavy metals such as arsenic and mercury. It is weakly radioactive but remains radioactive because of its long half-life. The Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry states that: "to be exposed to radiation from uranium, you have to eat, drink, or breathe it, or get it on your skin."[55] However, the Institute of Nuclear Technology-Radiation Protection of Attiki, Greece, has noted that "the aerosol produced during impact and combustion of depleted uranium munitions can potentially contaminate wide areas around the impact sites or can be inhaled by civilians and military personnel."[6] In a three week period of conflict in Iraq during 2003 it was estimated over 1000 tons of depleted uranium munitions were used.[7]

There's a good documentary on the use of NBC weapons during the gulf war but I forgot what the name was. Truly gruesome shit.
