I seem to recall you having an RG7321. You can just change the pickups on that but perhaps it's a Prestige that you're after since the entry model Ibanez stuff nowadays is
Original UV's are some of the best 7's ever made. Definitely the best ibanez's I've played.
If you want a crack at some cheap pickup upgrades, try some yibuy hexbuckers. I put a set in my mock 7 and they sound very dimarzio-like, but only ran me like $17. I had some invader clones and they were ok but these are much better.
I'm honestly really happy with what I've got amp and guitar-wise. An upgraded 7 is in the future at some point but it's something I'm gonna build myself.
Probably the tone, choice of wood, maybe the trem, and how the neck feels. I must say, there are some very nice prestige guitars out there. Uni has the same UV7 as I do, but it feels different and his is slightly heavier. Maybe different wood. The neck of the universe is just right, not too thin or too thick. Some of the prestige models I played on were a bit too thin for my taste.
But maybe for a 7 string, look at some other brands as well.
Mayones, maybe Schecter, Kiesel.
Be careful with scale lengths though. Too short and the lower strings might be floppy or the tone isn’t quite there.
So many of these guitars have EMG’s which I don’t like.
I was actually under the impression that Ibanez is pretty much the best when it comes to production line 7 stringers and ESP/LTD would come in a close second.
I am probably the only fan of EMGs here. I guess my ears are pretty much attuned to that sound and pick attack. Has anyone ever tried Fishman Fluence modern pickups? They're supposedly a much more versatile pickup set with the option of going passive or active at a push/pull of a knob, if that's your kinda thing.

Super important. My mock 7 is exactly 25" scale which is almost too short for A and it's slightly dull sounding, but it plays nice and easy.
I very much regret selling my UV7BK but you live and learn. I'm happy to have decked out my cheap mock to mimic the aesthetic. Just need some blue diamond inlays now and a brass block. Mockingverse
