Let me know how this one sounds. I've been super timid about buying MA vinyl after your famous experience.

wait where did you get it from when did that release i want to order it right now plz send me a link :waa:

it sounds great, worth a buy at $18. it's cut from the original masters and sounds vastly superior to the 2002 version i have. no clue how it stacks up against the original but this one is worth owning if you don't have a good copy on vinyl already

Got insect warfare and terrorizer shirts coming in the mail too.

Sorry, I was a bit loopy from too much benadryl and misspoke.  I have the Covenant FDR on its way to me (and the Altars FDR now, too :xx:). The Blessed record (which arrived) is the 180gr reissue through Century Media from last year, not an FDR release.

I've been buying a lot of records lately with my beer money. I got Bikini Kill's first record, another Fugazi record, a Minor Threat record, the pretty hate machine remaster, and I have the first B52s album (orig. pressing), Robin Trouer's Bridge of Sighs, and those Altars and Covenant FDR records coming.

aaaaaand I just got Holy Moses (US) - Latitude Zero 2005 reissue.

The $120 ish Pyle Pro table, for about half as a refurb. Only turntable in that price range with a counterweight-adjustable metal tonearm, preamp and an upgradable P-type cartridge. I did my research I swear!

I would've gone for an audio technics or uturn basic, but I forgot the prior was 3 benjamins and the latter which was in my price range didn't have a preamp (and adding the option made it basically 300).

So it's a starter/not an ultra-long term solution, but it looks promising. In a few years or when/if this one craps out I will go full potato with a more expensive table.

i don't know that one off the top of my head but it sounds like a fine choice to start :xx:

i am very pleased with my uturn setup, but it's not something i'd recommend for a first-time buyer unless you have a lot of disposable income. it would be analogous to suggesting a completely uninitiated musician start out with an american fender/gibson/etc. it's a great upgrade down the line once you've decided to stick with the format and become more heavily invested in it, but a bad place to start since you might decide it's not for you.

I agree, it did not make sense to spend $300 at this stage, as I think for now the only vinyl I have been and will be purchasing will be fairly cheap and not ultra high fidelity or modern. As of today, I am averse to the idea of buying modern releases on the format if they're available on CD or if they are vinyl-exclusive extras. Old stuff is the main thing I am eyeing.

Almost went for the vinyl dildo away of winds of creation since I love it so much, but talked myself out of it as I think as a relatively modern release I would prefer it in crystal clean CD format.

Should my disposable income multiply substantially in the coming years, I may retract these statements. Yay for turning capital into plastic with mostly little/no resale value!

yeah, you get the most out of it buying stuff that was actually recorded/pressed during the vinyl era. and at least for anything that had a reasonably sizeable pressing, tends to be the most affordable way to do it.

i get a chuckle out of the reissues of 70s stuff that sells for $30+ new when you can get a perfect original for under $10 that will sound just as good once the disc is cleaned up. with a decent table and a clean copy, 40+ year old discs can easily sound far better than their various digital-era releases, so it doesn't require spending a shitload of money to get serious fidelity out of it.

there are a lot of dubious modern vinyl releases that are cut from the CD version or shitty MP3 rips and whatnot, i tend to be very selective about buying reissues as a result.

fuck fuck FUCK. Ok, I am putting this down to count as next month's fuck-around money, because I didn't want to pass these up:

Snagged a deal on necroticism and symphonies thanks to a discogs email alert, my martching Carcass studio album collection is almost complete. Just need the US version of Swansong, I unknowingly bought the UK version which is dual-disc and the spine doesn't match

aaand $10 on a basically mint 1981 dildo away of JP's point of entry LP.

not anymore really, we used to have al-bums years ago but they went under. last i heard (and this was probably 3-4 years ago) their remaining inventory was still languishing in the foreclosed building that the bank never bothered to clear out. there were plans to liberate some of it, but that never panned out.

besides that there's jelly's which i haven't visited in probably 10 or more years, and anyway i think they don't do much in terms of records, it is more of a used CD shop. that's entertainment is right next door, and that is the shop where i play MTG on sundays. they have a decent vinyl selection but their prices are on the higher side.

that's entertainment is a wonderful store because of the wide variety of cool shit they sell, but the record section is very hit or miss.

It the used record store visit resulted in some LP's:

Pat Metheny Group - s/t + American Garage
Judas Priest - Unleashed, Defenders, British Steel
Nazareth - Malice in Wonderland
Genesis - forgot the title, but it was basically free.
Saxon - Denim & Leather
