Re: Music Haul
finally unsarded and did the ein taxes earlier which will be coming back soonly
i am about to haul one of these:
https://store.uturnaudio.com/products/orbit-plus-turntable
i will have to be sensible and pass on the strength and vision set. it looks truly magnificent but i can't justify spending $300 given that i already own all of the albums in one format or another

Re: Music Haul
indeed it is. i was originally looking at the audiotechnica 120, but it's direct drive and the consensus seems to be that's mainly only beneficial for DJ use. for playback, belt drive is apparently the way to go and this is meant to be on par with fancy tables twice its price. plus it's made locally!

That's right you didn't even jam prayers/triangles the first single that came out in feb
I'm jealous you'll be listening for the first time not having heard anything at all. Would be an awesome feeling
Enjoy

Re: Music Haul
you know, deftones albums never explode out like i expect (& want) them to. they are a very restrained band
which i have gathered is at least in part because stephen always wants to metal stuff up and chino is like "not so much, no"
but there is always so much going on within that restraint that their albums are really interesting and worthy of much revisitation
i think after one listen that that ein second track is my favorite. acid hologram
there is much thickness to be had here as well. the production is warm and dense

Re: Music Haul
I think that's why I prefer their first album. If they would let go a bit more like they did there, the later stuff would be more something I want to jam.

The production is great on gore. Not as mainstream as the previous two. I don't get the restrained thing. Have you not heard the first two albums, elite, Korea, when girls telephone boys, bloody cape, rapture, hexagram, ratsratsrats, the ending of beware, rocket skates, ending of Royal, poltergeist or goon squad? The first four albums have a good amount of heavy shit.
There is much to dissect and digest for sure. One of the reason I love them, so many layers makes the discovery that much more satisfying.
chino and steph both said in seperate interviews that acid hologram is their favorite track. chino said it was written by sergio

Re: Music Haul
I grabbed yesterday:
GWAR - Scumdogs of the Universe (2lp 180gr reissue with pop up art
)
nine inch nails - the downward spiral (2lp 180gr)
Sublime - Jah Don't Pay The Bills (first time on vinyl; don't judge me, splendid mate of mine
)
MiniAbzu grabbed the Star Wars The Force Awakens picture disc 10" with a couple tunes from the score and a Faith No More - Angel Dust used cd
This might be the first time I saw something on the release list and actually found it in the shop! It is the best GWAR album.

people listen to gwar for the music

Yeah those first few albums (after the first one, it was okay but kind of rough around the edges) were great. Scumdogs was especially solid.

Re: Music Haul
It is a bit of an anomaly
I think I get drawn to how they switched between a sort of 80s west coast hc feel and then these ska and reggae influences drop in. I can only sort of explain it lol
