I am asking if it was awkward to meet those guys. Did you have certain impressions based on how they post and they turn out to be completely different in real life and you find it a strange experience.

no it was not awkward, we have all spoken to each other on the telephone before and also extensively via textual message and facebook chat and such, and we know our personalities fairly well, and are all pretty laid back and / or ridiculous. so anyway i did not feel awkward at any moment

there was for one time when we were hanging out on the porch and luke said a dumb thing about something that was dumb, and we started to half-argue for a second. i don't remember what the thing was so clearly it was serious and important. and then we talked about television programmes and the conversation turned into  again

we did shit in stormy's mouth when he passed out early on friday. but he saw the humor in it so no harm done

I khav an opinion on this subject that Dutnis does not like. This further proves that I killed Luke and took his place.

Luke is right. Physical copies of books will be obsolete. Ebooks will become the norm not only because of technological reasons but also because of ecological reasons. Saving all that paper will be good for our environment. It is the decent thing to do.

At what point, though? I think we will still be seeing paper books in a century. They will live side by side with ebooks.

Books can be manufactured with partially recycled material and sustainable forest practices.

e-readers do far more ecological damage than physical books. that argument has long been disproven

I'm not talking about just books. I'm talking about all paper in general. Books might be a small part of the paper volume but if paper will one day go obsolete (as it should), paper-copy books must also go obsolete.

20 years, tops. In twenty years, you will have a whole new generation of young people who will be ever more connected, ever more technology adaptive. Everyone will have a tablet-like device with near unlimited storage.

I don't understand the appeal of paper when you can read perfectly fine on tablets at night without eye-strain.

This is currently true. Consider the PCBs inside. They contain a number of heavy metals and are typically not produced in any kind of "green" manner.

Furthremore, more and more offices and workspaces are adopting the practice of going "paper-less". It's like, not littering. If people can avoid printing on paper, they do so.

It is 7304.84 days.
It is 175316 hours.
It is 2 decades.

Yes, I realize how long that is. I also think, barring some major ecological disaster where production becomes impossible, your notion of books vanishing in twenty years is really, really silly. I do not even think they will be gone in 50 years.

Except this trend is not persisting in the book market. ebook sales leveled off and physical book sales increased. I imagine they will co-exist (much like vinyl records and digital music). You ignore a major difference between the two. In an office, going digital improves the workflow between workers or branches, etc. As the pace of business quickens through other technological areas, it is almost necessary to forego paper in an office. This does not translate over to the consuming of content like books.
