Re: Music Haul
The soundgarden is still open and going strong
. Record and tape traders was the big indie chain we had here. From what I remember they got bought out by some company in late 08/early 09. The inventory got all fucked up and everything shot up to out of control mall prices. Sadly all the stores but one were closed by early 2010.

Re: Music Haul
A thread like this exists? Awesome!!
This week I got:
Death - Human
Death - Individual Thought Patterns
Death - Symbolic
Death - The Sound of Perseverance
Morbid Angel - Formulas Fatal to the Flesh
Morbid Angel - Gateways to Annihilation
Buying music is
About that Phil Anselmo solo record: they have the vinyl at one of the shops downtown. I love that album actually and want the vinyl but every other time I'm there they have something else I want more and that kind of sucks because I still haven't bought it yet.

Deathspell Omega - Drought EP. Unless I can find any super good deals on music between now and Xmas, I'm done buying music for the year.

Re: Music Haul
I flipped through a few thousand CDs at the used record store yesterday, and aside from a $5 copy of Angel Rat I didn't see anything worth picking up
I'll probably walk back over this week for that Voivod album since there were a few copies in the bin.

Re: Music Haul
That sucks. I'm not even very social, but I always look forward to seeing the same old people at the record/book store. The last time I was in I mentioned to this one hard-on bearer that, aside from a Sepultura CD he probably already had, I didn't see anything he would be interested in for the first ten feet of the unsorted bin. If he wanted to talk there were several things we could have discussed, but he apparently didn't so he said "thanks" and moved on. Those are social situations that make sense to me.

Re: Music Haul
The last haul I had was Shroud of Despondency's Tied to a Dying Animal. 2 discs. The first disc is the band playing while plugged in. Disc 2 is acoustic stuff Rory likes to throw in on his albums. This release is the first one with a whole disc dedicated to the acoustic shit. Highly recommended.
I'm done plugging this band now.

Re: Music Haul
i opted to get the roadrunner pressing as that was like $10-15 cheaper than all of the combat/metal blade pressings in similar condition (the different labels were just for different territories, RR being the european release and combat being the american). it was $30 shipped, and the disc is in great condition considering it's just shy of 30 years old. it could use a washing and there are a couple of pops on the end of side 1, but i'm very pleased with it overall. the sound compared to the CD/MP3 versions i have is unreal.

Not that this question matters too much but did you get this LP colored, splattered or traditional 180 gram black?

none of the above! it's an original from 1985, it's plain black, probably 140g. 180 and up is heavyweight, usually only found on newer re-releases and special editions and such.
and in my experience it can be pretty important in terms of sound quality, more often than not fancy color editions (and especially picturediscs) sound bad. out of my collection, the transparent blue reissue of altars of madness is especially bad (which i didn't discover until ten years after buying it when i finally had a chance to gave it a spin), to the point that i emailed the earache asks blog complaining about it and asking what happened
the only colored vinyl i've got that i was very happy with the sound quality on is the neurosis 180g reissue of souls at zero. i generally avoid purchasing them now if i can, and always opt for black if given a choice.

The 180gram transparent blue Emperial Live Ceremony sounds great. That said, I haven't compared the sound between colored vinyl and black so I can't say anything, but in practice I've taken your word for it when shopping for my records.
