Do you duders find that as you get older,

Post by Haunty »

Music doesn't seem as loud, and not in a hearing loss kind of way. Even turned all the way up, music just doesn't feel loud anymore, just noisy. Sounds crazy, I know. Just wanted to see if anyone else has this experience. I wonder if as you get older, the magic sort of wears off with life experience.

This has never happened to me. Though a lot of the newer metal bands with god knows how many strings now and really low tunings don't really sound as 'extreme' to me, if that helps.

It has for me, haunty. Though that might be due to hearing loss. :redneck:

I have found that the powerful rush very loud music once gave me seems to have vanished over time, if that's what you're getting at.

mostly the only reason i listen to music loudly at home is because my roommates will play their awful shit at obnoxious volumes so i have to turn it up just to hear it.

Reminds me of that story Karl Sanders once told in an interview about living with Morbid Angel, and how they would all blast their music at the same time :redneck:

I would need a top of the line crowbar if roommates of mine ever tried to play ska music loudly, or at all.

That's one way of looking at the same thing. I suspect it has a lot to do with exposure. It doesn't really fill your head the way it did when you were younger and had a lot more to imagine. As you get older, I think experience starts to identify music with things you're actually doing, like driving a car, and it loses its mystique. So I don't think it's necessarily "quieter," but it just doesn't feel as powerful.

music is still powerful to me duders, I think you really get old when you lose your imagination. it also helps to listen to a variety of music, then the heavy stuff sounds heavy

I don't get as much of a thrill out of discovering new music as I used to. The best moments for me and music these days are random oit of the blue moments when nostalgia and life reflection meet up with ethereal peaceful type music, usually soundtracks when I'm watching movies. I still get jacked when I listen to my favorite metal songs though. Extreme music is a different beast. I will listen to it until the day I die.
