Leon, did you ever think about auditioning for MA during the time they were looking for a guitarist?

Seems like some kind of bastard child of Thordendal, Azagthoth, and Murphy!
Leon, did you ever think about auditioning for MA during the time they were looking for a guitarist?
It did cross my mind when the auditions came up, but I never auditioned, even though I'm pretty confident I could play the material the way Trey wanted it played...

The main reason I didn't was; I had and have way too much going on in my life to be able to commit to a band like Morbid; family commitments, a busy business, my own band etc. I can honestly say I wouldn't give all that up to be in Morbid Angel.... You'd have to drop everything and leave whatever you were doing behind.

10 Years ago when I was a bit more of a fanboy I might have given it a go though :xx:

I reckon Thor is doing a great job anyway!

Not every employer likes to look from the side when your employee takes 1,5 months time off from office to be on tour, come back for 3 weeks and then do the same again.

Fortunately for me I'm the managing director of my own company, but that makes it even harder to bugger off on long tours.

That said hopefully Mithras will be doing a bit next year :D

We'd really like to, but as Sam keeps pointing out everytime we talk about it, it ain't no picnic to play the USA. Work permits cost a fortune and it's obviously logistically much more difficult than playing in Europe, still we'll do our best and see what happens...

you needs to get yosefs a sexy angent who can hook you up on some saucy tours...A Finberg (first row talent) package would suit you guys really well (handles stuff like MA and Nile), or perhaps something The Agency Group is doing (Behemoth, i forget who else), perhaps Ash (forget his company's name, did the Carcass US tours, handles a bunch of Deathcore)

Not that any of this is helpful in any way. :redneck:

Last I heard it's Finberg and Digger for the kind of stuff we do. I'm interested to hear if there's any other booking agents about though.

But we aren't about doing package month-long tours of the US, or anywhere, to be honest. Everyone in the band has a bucketload of adult responsibilities, and I've already done the hardcore touring thing which left a terrible taste in my mouth. Luke from Berzerker just got back from a month-long tour with Obituary, Goatwhore, and Krisiun, and said most nights were around 200 people max. That doesn't exactly entice us to shed ourselves of relationships, health, wealth, and careers which is basically what you do when you hit the road. Plus you play to as many people in one decent festival as you do in an entire tour. It just makes better sense at this stage.

The most realistic prospect I can see for us in the US would be getting picked up by a festival, and doing a brief week-long run of shows around the date. But no big-ass tours! - unless it's something so cosmic I cannot yet conceive what it is.

Or unless I go utterly fucking crazy, whichever's first.

It depends where in your life you're at, and what you value at the time.

If you're young and crazy and want adventure more than security, sanity, or anything else, then touring is good. If you don't mind living like an 18-year old and you love hanging out with your bandmates, then it's good. And if you want to get your band to the top of the pile and don't care how you get there, then it's good.

Digger as in 'Digger International'. Back in 2001-03, almost all of the extreme metal bookings in the US were handled by either Finberg or Digger. I imagine things may have changed in the last six years. I can't imagine that they'd change for the worse, either...I've had some unhappy tours with both. But that could have just been our notorious bad berzerker luck.

Now playing the Maryland Death Fest would be awesome. We could lay down some savagery and then party on down with the MABB people-folk. Fuck yes.

Yeah, I have heard some unpleasant things about Finny...for instance he requires deposits on almost everything he does, puts those deposits in a cd account, and collects the interest, and some bands have had to wait a ridiculous amount of time for their cashola...I'm pretty sure he pissed of Misery Index this way.

by knowing a promoter, working your ass off, becoming part of the company, then becoming a promoter yourself

if you are interested in it, find a promoter in your area, start going to shows, talking to said promoter, volunteering your services, ect....it would probably be easiest to start off with a smaller promoter.

I had my own company, which went into the dirt for various reasons, but i have worked for 2 seperate companies, and even co-founded one in arizona

I know the deposits thing seems to rub a lot of bands the wrong way, and I know of some who have experienced problems getting their deposits repaid.

As a person, I am one of the rare ones who likes Finberg: he is as perverted as myself. Respect. He also got us on the Art of Noise tour which absolved him of a fair few sins in my eyes.

The one big problem I've had on one of his tours, not even sure if it was his fault - it was the Immolation tour. Our contract specified that we used Immolation's backline, at no cost. The TM for that tour was some wanker called Woody. We arrived from our 24 hour plane flight from Oz to the US, to have Woody greet us with the news that we'd be using Origin's backline instead and would be paying them US$100 per week for the pleasure. Just a little something Woody and Origin had cooked up, didn't like the foreigner band billing above them. When we pointed to our contract and said that's not what was agreed, he offered to kick us off the tour.

We couldn't protest to Finberg because he was in Thailand, nailing kids I assume.

Yeah, it was very stressful. After our last show, which was Carcass last march, I didn't pick up a guitar for over a month, and totally pulled out of everything, the gas tank had been empty for a long time...lately i have just been trying to get my drive back...doing a little promo and show work here and there, playing with riff ideas, joining dickie's band on bass...but Im still not where I used to be :alien:
