My laptop's on board video won't qualify

I need to build my gaming rig, godfuckingdammit. I just got a job so it won't be long.

Then I have 2 L4D's to play somewhere in between the hours I will put into The Old Republic.

your best bet would be to just go with L4D 2, its pretty much the same game but with more stuff.

the first one has no story or anything, just 4 different campaigns.

just saying that I thought the graphics were really cool, not saying that makes the game. but I'm a big L4D fan and part 2 is a lot of fun. Plus Source is my favorite gaming engine.

What games do you think have some of the top graphics?

Crysis, obviously (just take a look at some of the "photorealistic"/whatever-they're-called-now mods. there was (maybe still is) even a Far Cry 2 mod that even in the preprealpha stage looked 10 times better than that shitty excuse for a game). STALKER has one of the best lighting engines around right now (the latest iteration of the X-ray engine the only one that can challenge Cryengine. too bad the artist weren't up to par). Unreal Engine is probably the most versatile engine right now while still looking quite recognizable and really really good. at the very least, it's on par with Source as far as graphical capabilities go. ARMA is also worthy of consideration for it's huge landscapes (with seamless loading, mind), realism and good AI (but poor art and bugs to make winME shudder)

I've heard Crysis has the top graphic requirements right now but a few people told me the game wasn't any good so I've been hesitant about getting it. I own Far Cry 2 and it has some really impressive looking graphics, but I haven't been able to get into the game yet, hasn't really hooked me.

I'm a pretty lazy gamer though, so I miss out on some popular games and haven't experienced all the newer engines.

I'm just hoping the engine is good so we can get awesome Doom and Quake sequels.

idTech 4 was too light reflective. Other than that, it made for a fun experience in Quake 4 and Doom 3.

I agree that id has been the sard of late. What was the last game they developed?! Quake 4 was done by Raven Software. I'm pretty sure that Doom 3 was their last developed game, released in fucking 2004.

Wolfenstein. co-developed by Raven Software, id Software, Pi Studios and Endrant Studios and published by Activision

The only review of the game you need to know.. Single player = awesome. Multiplayer = punch yourself in the face.

Dude, they butchered the multiplayer and that's what all the old wolfenstein fans were looking forward to the most. Return to Castle Wolfenstein and Woflenstein: Enemy Territory has some of the best and imo the best multiplayer created.

id didn't do the MP though, they handed it over to Endrant Studios to let them PISS ALL OVER IT. The day the game was released most of Endrant Studios employees were fired.

That's called MegaTexture, it's already been introduced. It was used in ET:QW

MegaTexture is a texture mapping technique developed by John Carmack of id Software. The technology allows maps to be totally unique, without any repeated terrain tiles. In a nutshell.. rpg are like click to do this attack, wait until your time, use this ability. fps, you're skill is your aim, movement, and ability to outsmart the other player.

i know rpg games are mostly about story lines but to me it's kind of like reading a book and interacting with it. it's fun, i like it. but i just prefer the fast paced action of an fps game
