I think it's morally disgusting that euthanasia is illegal.



I think it's fucked up that a person can't go to their doctor for something to kill themself.



I think it's fucked up that if someone does seek help for a prolem from medics, and the medics cant solve the problem, that if the person then would rather die, that the medics will not help them out and usually actively try and stop them.



I think realising this outcome may stop some people from even admitting/talking openly in the first place.



That's what I think.

Actively facilitating dying is one thing they should be able to do well, comfortably.

i agree that euthanasia should be legal. about trying to stop it, when there is literally no hope whatsoever, with little time left, its pretty tongue in cheek. but the diagnosis should be a terminal illness and other careful requirements, that way you don't have depressed people asking for it and claiming that they have a right to die.

@ chaohinon...it is your body and your choice, regardless of reason, but i'm saying there is a good reason to absolutely not allow it. i'd go so far as to say that treatable conditions, as in not terminal conditions, should be out of the picture. in fact, i think that making euthanasia legal could bring suicidal people out of the closet . bonus.

it's not necessarily illegal, oregon has had a law allowing for physician-assisted suicide for the last ten years or so. any state could adopt a similar law if there were enough support for it.

yah, i know about that. i think its great. i guess i might check into the requirements about it. i hope there are some. i think there's good reason for a trained psychiatrist to step in and play god. for a cheap stab, i'll mention that it happens in the court room all the time.

I had a great grandma who lived to be 105. the last 10 years of her life she told everyone she wanted to die,constantly, but she didn't have the strength to do it herself. she was in a nursing home and had someone caring for her. her health was bad and she was in constant pain (it's really amazing she lived as long as she did). we couldn't do anything. she died miserable. she wasn't a miserable person before her health got really bad. she just didn't want to live anymore.



another relative died from cancer after battling it for years. the last couple of years they couldn't even leave their home. they were bed ridden and there was no hope of remission. I only knew him briefly before the cancer got bad and he was a wonderful person who did all kinds of charity work and was not selfish at all. towards the end he also said he wanted to die, the pain was too unbearable even after years of dealing with it. he died miserable and in pain.
