I asked why he didn't just move to NK and be a Communist and have a bunch of comrades, but he gave me an unsatisfactory dodgy answer, at which point I had lost interest anyway

tokyo has a significant NK expat community. if memory serves, they actually control a large percentage of the pachinko parlors there, a lot of the proceeds get funneled back home.
