try the standard ubuntu distro instead? i dunno. linux can be a raging bitch to get working if all of your hardware isn't supported out of the box.

Re: kubuntu Vs Vista HELP
Coincidentally, I have been experimenting(wasting my time) with Xubuntu on a low spec laptop I got recently. Everything I needed worked right out of the box, but performance was actually worse than XP, and Xubuntu is supposed to be the fastest of the 3 official Ubuntu distros(U, Kubuntu, Xubuntu).
My suggestion: don't bother with linux unless you have something older than a pentium 3(definitely can't use Ubuntu on something that old, use another distro), just get xp pro and configure it right, it'll save you headaches.

Re: kubuntu Vs Vista HELP
yup. we have dual booting systems wit XP and ubuntu on every pc@uni, and ubuntu is noticeably slower (for example, FF on ubuntu is much slower than even IE on XP)

Re: kubuntu Vs Vista HELP
I think you're right, borrowed a copy of XP Prof from my fellating lover and installed that instead, runs pretty darned awesome now, SOOO much faster than Vista
Kubuntu looked like it was having trouble installing the drivers and couldn't get it's head around it, just kept buggering up, i'm happy with XP now though.
Thanks all.
Also, on vista my wireless connection was dire, dropouts galore but with XP and different drivers, immensely better.
I'm chuffed, it's actually useable now and not just a waste of cash.
