that reminds me of how much i hated complex analysis last semester (although it isn't really hard, and my ex-roommate told me it has a lot of real-world applications; or at least in electromechanics)

this is the first time i've seen somebody use "j" for the imaginary number
anyway, iirc, in engineering it really simplifies the analysis of sinusoidal functions/differential equations with sinusoidal functions. in math, you can solve a lot of really pesky real (line) integrals much much quicker using theorems (the residue theorem) from complex analysis; plus they have some interesting properties (for example, any holomorphic function (a complex function that is complex-differentiable) is actually infinitely differentiable and equal to its own Taylor series)
