Anyone seen this website before ?

Discuss the legendary band Morbid Angel here. For twenty years The Chapel has connected the morbid fanbase online.

Anyone seen this website before ?

Post by Phantoon »

<!-- m -->http://www.anus.com/metal/morbidangel.html<!-- m -->. It seems to be written by someone/people with a huge understanding of musical theory and the like. While I can grasp most of what they say, some of time I'm just lost in amongst the musical vocabulary. Here they detail the overall effect of MA's albums have on the listener (their opinion of course), although I don't agree with their take on Gateways being a "template cut" "normative output". Instead I see Gateways as a realization of all the things that work in the bands songwriting from the past and made a complete album out of it without it sounding like a repeat of the past at all, and then some more on top of that.

Anyway see what you think. They do loads of other bands too :chetty:

This is a quasi-intellectual site, very pretentious and not half as informed as proclaimed. Many facts are wrong.

For instance they claim that Chuck Schudiner died of AIDS:

This site isn't called anus for nothing.

Yeah, ANUS and Prozak have been around forever. Even before ANUS, Prozak was spewing the same kind of nonsense on alt.rock-n-roll.metal.death and a few other Usenet groups. Those guys have no understanding of music theory whatsoever, and the attempts at "intelligent" writing are laughable at best. It's a classic case of someone trying to look smart, but saying nothing at all.

I noticed the "anus" and did think it was strange admittedly...

All things said I still feel a kind of agreement with the reviewers perspective on some of their reviews. But definitely at times they tend to drift off into unnecessarily complex sentences to look all knowing on the music evaluation side of things.

The last time I checked anus was when he was bashing (by then deceased) Chuck Schuldiner for having embraced Christianity. Didn't leave a very good impression on me.

That is probably a nudge to the logo that had an inverted cross as a T. From Symbolic on, it became a + - cross and on The sound of perserverance, it lost the death's head on the H and some started calling it the 'christian logo'.

Again, this site blows things out of proportion.

Although some opinions on some records might sound decent, they have a lot of facts not straight.
