Want ein new one.



ANyone have experience with these? Ideally I'd get a piano, but they are obviously more expensive and less portable. I'm looking for the keyboard to have loads of keys.

what are you looking for ideally? I managed the keyboard and recording department at the Phoenix Sam Ash for like 4 years so if you have any questions ask them here and I will answer or post what you want and I will make some recs based on your price/feature needs etc.

Something that will closely resemble a piano, but is portable.

if you're really looking for just piano type sounds and are in that price range I'd say on the lower end the Yamaha P-95 is a pretty good choice, extremely basic but a decent action. You only get about 10 sounds with it and no dedicated line outs, but it is a good beginner keyboard if piano is what you want to use it for. With a decent headphone it sounds very good and the internal speakers are not bad, it's around 500 euros I think.



on the upper scale(a little beyond, like 1200 euros) would be the P-155 from Yamaha which has a significantly better action and sound, more sounds, line outs, a lot of other little features. But the action is miles better than the P-95 and it is definitely worth the extra money, but if you are looking at price as one of the bigger components of the purchase I'd say the 95 would be the way to go.



If you are ok with buying used look for used Roland FP-7s and FP-4s, possibly CP-33/CP-300/P-250 model Yamahas but keep in mind with all of those you are sacrificing some mobility as they are all much heavier than the two I mentioned before(extremely so in the CP-300/P-250 and the FP-7's case) and some require external speakers(CP-33).



Also I would stay away from most of the Korg models, the SP-170, the SP-250, etc. Their actions are awful in comparison to even the less expensive Yamahas, the sound quality is not as good as either the Yamaha or the Rolands, their support at least in the United States is nowhere near as good, and you don't save any money on them really. If we were talking non-weighted there could be some argument and especially so if we're discussing used workstation types but Korg has not released a product in the digital piano market that has ever even warranted a look at, and really their other keyboards in the last 5-8 years haven't been much better.



so in a one sentence sum up: if you want new, look at the P-95 or P-155 if your budget allows. If you are ok with used try to get a good deal on an FP-4 or FP-7 Rolands as in my opinion that series from Roland is the pinnacle of mid-priced(sub-2K) digital piano action and sound, the FP-7 especially.

there are some things that are more prevalent in euroland than the US that I'm not super familiar with but if it's from most of the major brands I've played it or at least know of it so I'll try to help in any way I can
