sorry stormy, don't know if I'll be picking up an 8 bit Fuzz now, this can do all those video game sounds, and I'm getting this for free from Zvex, because I'm going to write a review for it

my fuzz search is not over though, I plan on having a nice collection, some NES looking things might have to be part of this



all I really need to get now is a nice muff style fuzz (got rid of one I had), but after that all options will be open

Don't like the sounds. Looks good on paper but I don't like any of these modern pedals deliberately trying to sound "lo-fi". Zvex's are expensive too. If I ever get a wah again it would be a zvex wah probe though, a proximity antenna on a wah is pretty genius.



I want a black Russian big muff, I dig the sound. Together with some verb+delay it would make some epic volume swells. The musket sounds cool and similar from what I can tell, but it has too many damn knobs.

the Fuzz Factory has been around since 1996 or so, but really it's a hi fi pedal, that first video, I think the duder didn't know how to use it



it's a strange pedal, the controls are really a bunch of bias controls, so it has a learning curve, but apparently it's worth the curve if you're the kind that likes tweaking.



really though, it's not a fuzz for everyone, something like a Monsterpiece or a Fulltone 70 would do most people well, or some sort of Muff

those Vexter series ones are around $170, which really isn't very bad for a boutique quality pedal, not much more and less than some Boss pedals



there are several cheaper boutique options, such as Monsterpiece, which are $150 or less mostly



I mean really, I have a killer amp, that has killer distortion, which I can use any time I want, but would be boring if that was all I could do

same post in short: boutique is cool, but if you're going to buy, you must buy smart. if you buy smart, the prices aren't all that different than mass manufactured pedals. don't blow $400 on a skreddy or hand painted Zvex, get the silk screened ones, they look just as cool.

also, oscillation does not = lo-fi

got it today, found a lot of useful sounds so far, it's pretty easy to figure out how to control the oscillation for your own needs, turn it into more of a synth being played by the guitar, but it also does a nice germanium fuzz face/tonebender.



lots of definition, can easily be used for heavier forms of music, but it does tamer fuzz too no problem



just scratching the surface with this thing

also, it's anything but lo-fi, it even works well for palm muting heavy sludge

I think most metal guitarists or whatever don't dig fuzz because they simply don't know how to use it right.



you don't just plug into the clean channel of your amp and use it like a distortion pedal, it's too brittle that way



you add a little bit of gain from your amp (this is why a tube amp is preferred, as most solidstate amps don't have gain on the clean channel)



when you add a little bit of gain, it completely opens the fuzz up, it's warm, heavy and huge, but will still clean up to nearly perfectly clean with just the guitar volume knob
