I'm not sure how formula one cars are built, to be honest, but that seems the most likely cause. If it were a bad wheel bearing or hub, that could cause it as well, but for only one wheel, unless both failed simultaneously.



That's my best guess though, as I said I don't know how they are constructed and how the drivetrain/suspension/etc differ from your average everyday vehicle

Apparently the reports said it was a suspension failure, the wishbone collapsed causing the front wheels simultaneously exploded free of their mountings.

Formula 1 is awesome. When bad things happen, they tend to happen spectacularly.

Drivers from Indycar, Champcar/CART and NASCAR is nothing compared to Formula One drivers. The last successful driver who competed in Formula One from CART would be Jacques Villeneuve.
