It is worth seeing in the theater. Twice for me, because I was in the front row and couldn't see anything.

Re: teh new transformers movie
I saw it in an IMAX, which was fun. Other than the big dumb CGI stuff, this movie may possibly have been even more of an abortion than its predecessor.

Re: teh new transformers movie
The way I see it, you've got to learn to enjoy this stuff. It's kind of like the movie version of a food pyramid. The big dumb CGI in this movie was spectacular, and I enjoyed it for the entertainment value. If you haven't learned to suppress your "bullshit!!" reflex, you won't get much out of most movies these days.

Re: teh new transformers movie
For fuck's sake, it's been this way since the 70s. In order to break even, the movie companies spam the shit out of movies, hoping one sticks. Everyone always goes, "Why don't they start making good movies like they used to?" They do. Maybe one out of every ten is decent. People just remember the good ones from the past and forget the million flops entirely. If you don't learn to enjoy things for what they are, then you're fucked. This is the way it's going to be for the rest of your life.
As far as this movie goes, yeah, I'd give it about a C-. But there were lots of shiny things and lots of explosions, which is cool, because they're shiny and/or explosive. Kind of like going to a fireworks show. Maybe I'm just more easily entertained than some people. I dunno. Either way, I don't get why every time I go see a movie, 98% of the people leaving the theater are between 18 and 23, and they all hated the movie. No matter what it is. All I can come up with is that most people go to a movie expecting to hate it, or are afraid of having their own opinion enough to like something no one else likes. I've actually gotten into fights with high school kids who won't shut up during a movie. All they do is giggle to each other about how bad it is.

my main gripes with this movie are: too long, it should've been 20min shorter, the battles with the Fallen and Devastator were way too short and "mundane" (they should've been fucking epic), dialogue was often cringe-worthy (i.e. more than expected), the scene where shia lebluff dies and those primes talk and resurrect him or whatever was atrocious, and wtf@the special ops team hunting decepticons?!
it was proven multiple times during the movie that in a fight with robots (unless heavily backed by a whole fucking army and the autobots) the only good thing the marines are good at is dying. as expected. it's like assembling a team of trained ants to hunt down tigers. with laser eyes. and missiles. lots of missiles

True.
I, for one, call bullshit on:
-bumblebee not having a voice (pretty sure they fixed it last time)
-the really stereotypical bureaucratic fuckdummy who wants to shut everything down without asking questions
-the little fuckin twin autobots taking out that giant-ass one (or just not getting eaten for that matter)
-somehow the marines manage to a) not be annihilated by the decepticons that OUTNUMBER them and b) actually take a bunch of 'em out
-You know that scene at the Smithsonian? Well, it's not the Smithsonian. It was filmed at Pima Air Museum in Tuscon AZ. When they bust out of the big bay doors, they exit into Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, which is also near Tuscon.

-the rail gun. they haven't got one that small yet, as they require nuclear reactors to power them. I do give them credit for having it on the right ship though.
-the final fight with The Fallen wasn't interesting at all.
