Hey wheretheslimelives, or anyone else who has heard I

Post by TamPron »

Does Dave do any low growls at all? Or are the samples all a good representation of his vocal performance as a whole?

I think Existo and Nevermore both represent his performance pretty well. He changes his style a little bit on Blades For Ball. You should be able to hear that in the samples. It's sort of like a mix between his performance on Blessed and Domination. His voice is naturally deep but he doesn't use any gutturals. The only album he ever half-growled on was Covenant.

Hope that gives you an idea.

What was it that you had hoped for?

I think it's his best performance since Blessed.

Listen to Existo and Nevermore and tell me what's wrong with it? His voice is MASSIVE. Really powerful delivery and great articulation. Unless you hated his voice in the first place of course. Then it's a matter of taste and a good delivery probably won't change that.

I like his singing in Blades better than the two you mentioned. I must say I always liked his vocals on Blessed the most. Covenant was cool no doubt but the production of the Blessed vocals is awesome.

I just think people are in such a frenzy about Illud that they forget to give credit where it's due. David is a VERY talented vocalist. His performance on the new album is speaks mountains in that respect. You might hate the lyrics and experimentation or whatever. But this is a solid performance. Period.

I think a lot of folks just like the more typical lower DeatMetal growls. I thought Steve was great but more standard DM-singing. Jared was way more agressive than him. David sounded really mean and agressive on the first two IMO. The new vocals are also very agressive but a tad more polished. The only thing i do not like that much is the repeating of words he does so regularly in the samples i've heard. Glory glory for example and there are lots more like that. He sings the "echo" in the same sentence, as in the early days he would have dubbed that more creativly.

Well I wouldn't say dubbing is more "creative" per se. That's just a choice. It's a matter of taste I suppose. I really dig it.

As for Steve... He seems cool but like a total average Joe. Ceremony was really boring and the new project he is attached [Nader Sadek] is just... Some Egyptian designer's concept/idea of the "greatest Death Metal band ever". It's fucking stupid. Why didn't Steve create that band himself? He seems like a creatively crippled person who really doesn't have much to say. This could all be wrong of course. But that's my impression. Jared was a fucking monster. Maybe too much of a redneck. But his conviction and anger was instantly recognizable.

I do enjoy his performance on both of those songs, I was just hoping he would mix it up more on the rest of the album.

He is mixing it up in every sentence. It's not monotonous in the slightest way. But you'll probably have to hear it for yourself. There's a lot of effects/dubbing in the second part of 10 More Dead etc. So you'll probably have to hear it for yourself to judge it.

From what I've heard on Nevermore, Existo Vulgore, and the samples, his performance is good (despite some of the lyrics being absolutely fucking ridiculous) and despite what you may have engraved in the stone inside your skull, I do not dislike Vincent at all. I began listening in the Domination era (though with Covenant) and then the back catalog before being introduced to Tucker on Formulas. I understand it makes your arguments easier assuming I'm a DV-hater, but it is just not the truth.

I simply think his vocal performance on Covenant was his best. His range was wider and his delivery felt stronger and more attacking. While his Illud performance is good, it doesn't touch the Covenant performance, I and I certainly would not put it over the Blessed vocals either.

quite honestly, steve is a far better lyricist than david ever was, dating back to aom/bats. steve didn't create that band himself because I don't know if he knows rune and flo himself.

david's lyrics, by the time covenant and domination came around, were very very mundane. tucker's were a breath of fresh air.
