May be he is playing for himself.

There are great classical musician around the world making music for themselves. About my country as far as i know, there are some highly skilled sitar players here who dont show their skills to others. This i came to know through a guitar teacher here who went on a trip to find such musicians. This is one level at which the person only cares for the music, nothing else.

This is what I am taking from it. If anything he is going back instead of forward, but so different that it seems like it is digression instead of progression and keeping the Continuum flame alive, while at the same time he is seeing that he IS still playing for the Continuum without thought as to how others will accept it or what fans may think. He is ultimately doing it for himself and himself alone. If fans embrace and come along for the ride that makes the trip even better but the trip is going whether we are on board or not. Again though, I may be reading FAR MORE into this interview then I should.

There is a point when one lets their love for a particular artist get in the way of their judgments on the material that they release; and I cannot honestly say I am a fan of Morbid Angel after Heretic without compromising my integrity in regards to what I find meaningful.

If Trey wants to sound like Rammstein and Rob Zombie, then let him, but no one should expect anyone to absolutely love what Morbid Angel do just because they are Morbid Angel. That's fucking ridiculous.

I find Darkthrone's new albums the best they've ever done, and this is a controversial opinion. I cannot however say this about Illud.

They escaped the gloryhole era black metal trend without selling out and created an AWESOME blend of metal and punk in the vein of Puke, Agent Steel, Bulldozer, Slaughter, and so many fucking others. The inspiration is still the same, the attitude is still there, but with a completely new sound

Darkthrones newer stuff is too different to even compare IMO. It's essentially two different bands.

I love both but prefer the older stuff. No other band used Black Metal quite like they did. They had an atmosphere all their own.

dang...haha those reviews were pretty.. brutally honest.....those things they said have been thoughts in the back of my head.....the lyrics on the new album don't seem to....occult....and the track nevermore seems really....poppy almost,...but idk, I'm still going to buy the album and I'll make up my mind once I actually hear it for myself.

Actually, there was a recent Sarke gig where Ted was supposed to play it, but the guitar didn't make it in time. It's in the Norway postal system right now, waiting to clear customs I guess. But Ted really wants to promote, as he really believes in Ikon. The Autopsy guys, too--there's a gig in Austin next Friday and from what I understand, they are going to play their customs throughout the set.

As far as the Ikon guitars in general...they're not for everyone. I honestly have barely played one, so at this point I look at them more like fucked up pieces of art, and I like most of them in that sense. The only "pro" review I have known of is from the Autopsy guys, who absolutely love them. Evidently their usual tech was really impressed as well, FWIW. I think the Darkthrone guitar is actually cool looking, and rather "conservative" compared to their others. I do agree on the headstock shapes, I think they're too big/long. I thought they'd make the guitars very neck heavy, but shockingly the ones I picked up were not, they actually balanced pretty well. But just aesthetically, I find the huge headstock a little distracting.

My custom 8-string specs are like this:

The luthier already did the experiment with the off center truss rod, which allows for an asymmetrical carve on the neck. Basically the bass side of the neck is fatter then the treble side. I played the first guitar that he tried it on, and it's pretty amazing. It looks like it would feel awkward, but it felt completely natural, to me.

I went multiscale because I have small hands. I've been playing a 27" scale 8 string for a couple of years now and I love it, and the scale length feels great to me for riffing. But there were some stretches during soloing that were difficult for me, due to the scale length. This way I get the best of both worlds, the baritone scale for the riffing on the low strings, and the standard 25.5" scale for the higher strings.
