Domination lyrics
I remember reading that some of the lyrics/lines on Domination was changed/brewed. Anyone who can help me with some info on this?

Re: Domination lyrics
I believe they changed some of the lyrics to Dawn of the Angry when Tucker joined. But I think Jared used the original lyrics.
And I THINK they might have altered World of Shit as well. I saw at least one video where David didn't sing "Untermensch." I know Steve didn't, forget if Jared did or not.

I don't know about that, but didn't they add or change a few lyrics for "Dawn of the Angry" when they began playing it live again?

I knew about the untermensch bit (he still doesn't say it anymore, right?) but I was unaware of the Dawn of the Angry alterations. Live videos must be perused.

Re: Domination lyrics
Mostly all was on "Dawn...", some intersting bits about the album changes were that apparently there was contention about the "watery" vocals on "Where the slime live"... and back to "Dawn.." the vocal part where the "Call of Duty.." lyrics start it was originally "sung" with clean "whoa-whoa" type vocals....at least if i remember something Trey said to me back in 97'...
I guess these and other things started the snowball to avalanche issues for the lineup back then...

Re: Domination lyrics
In interviews he said he did not like the "minutes man rise and shine" lines. And the war themed lyrics.
I must say evethough this is "the bad lyric" album, which in my opinion a lot of people say so because Trey said something about it, without really knowing which songs he actually ment. There are some good ones on there. Eyes to see and inquisition are cool for instance.

I personally love the lyrics on Domination. Poetic yet ruthless. But I'm also a militant angry young man with fascist tendencies and a great love for Ernst Jünger and Angelcorpse.

Domination is a mixed bag of good and bad lyrics for me. Some are pretty damn cool while others are just plain stupid.

tbh, I never thought Domination's lyrics were bad, wrong, off topic or style or whatever. I like em.
And why not sing "untermensch" ? (I know why), but c'mon - it's from Nietzsche! Not Hitler. The interpretation is in the eye of the beholder.

Re: Domination lyrics
Consequence...now the panic comes
You've dabbled in magik your fingers are burned
Lost as you run towards the light
And deep in your heart you have nothing but fear
Your future is hanging by a strand
Your master makes his just demands
Game of life's price coming due
A swell of fear erupts in you
Your time is now!
Never a prayer, just silence rings
Charity works won't change a thing
Your balance of life is on our side
There's never a place to hide
What's so real is plain in sight
Cost to play: eternal life
For when we play - we play for keeps
Satan's marks forever we speak
Your time is now!
With screams you defy still silence rings
Prayers to some god won't change a thing
Gleam in your eyes reduced to tears
And deep in your heart you've nothing but fear
Why object to "rewards" you know you've earned them
Why reject all your fantasy
You can't betray what your works have bargained for you
No use to fear what you have in store
Written by a teenager? I think this is solid.

Re: Domination lyrics
To mock one thing doesn't make another better. But I think Vicent's talent really shines when you compare it to this:
There is no rhythm to these verses what so ever. It looks like something lifted straight from a book (which is probably the case).
How can you defeat that which
finds
Nourishment in your attack?
How can you kill that which
Finds sanctuary in your blade?
How can you hinder that which
Embraces the strategies against it?
You can take nothing from not
In My Being, Nothing Is
Nothing Becomes
Nothing is not
In your world, all things return to Me
I'm the Collector of Souls
For they're never past my control
I take of what is and nothing of that I give
I'm the Alpha Omega
My Way in Itself, complete
I Am The Continuum
Human, meagerness of purpose
Come feed Me what I please
My spirit shan't be hindered
For It Knows no weakness
I dine on your pain
Your strength is only that of men
Human, why do you clutch your flesh so?
In My Being I AM
I Will
I Create
In your world all things return to Me

What the fuck are you talking about. These lyrics are both awesome and fit the song perfectly. Who the fuck needs vocal rhythm in a slow sludgy death metal song? This is way better than any of the bullshit David writes about HARDCORE MANIACAL

Re: Domination lyrics
Nothing Is Not are Trey's lyrics...
At any rate, Domination serves a militant style, philosophical awareness type of prose. It's like an apex, a culmination of their earlier work as described through more of a human's mind but an overman type that's realized that all of these words previous and present are metaphors! and still very much about self empowering. The other albums serve this purpose through the occult, albeit, it's all drawing the same power-centers; these are power words expressed through "otherworldly" metaphor and surrealistic metaphor. The way I see it, the albums cater to various brain hemispheric thinking. I for one see them all as worthy and befitting for each vibe. It's ridiculous to compare them.
If anything you guys should have a bone to pick with "We are hardcore maniacal" and dreck like that. A - H is a home run lyrically and musically. "I" is an orphan in my eyes...

The rhythms in Trey's lyrics on FFttF are close to the rhythms of the old verses they are inspired by. Considering the subject matter, I'd say it's on purpose.

It's all about thoughts made flesh. Going out into the world and using your philosophy to put a mark on it. In that way Illud Divinum Insanus can be seen as an even more personal continuation of the Domination theme. Less external references.

Some of the Illud lyrics I've read make the lesser of the Domination lyrics seem like pure, transcendent genius.

A proof of that and a proof that Trey can write lyrics with a proper rhythm to them would leave my argument invalid. Until then your word is...
Keeping Trey's A-C lyrics in mind I'd say that Trey is the better guitar player and Vincent is the better poet/lyricist. I'm pretty sure even Trey would agree with this.

Keeping your geographical location in mind this is probably a waste of time. But here we go...
A lyric is if the dictionary is the be trusted a short poem of a "songlike quality". When something is considered "lyrical" it's because it's "suitable for or suggestive of singing". Not just a bunch of short lines put together in a more or less random order. It's not like any random fool can sit down a be the next Baudelaire. It's craft that takes talent and a lot of practice. David is/used to be a master of this discipline (depending on your opinion of his most recent lyrics).
It's true though that most Death Metal bands don't give a fuck about rhythm or lyrical qualities these days. That's one of the reasons why they all sound like generic garbage. It was a little different back in the Thrash/early Death Metal days when most bands depended on traditional rock structures. With verses and choruses. The vocal lines had to work with the music. You couldn't just go "woof woof woof" over a bunch of riffs. Like most do today.
In that way David is actually more of a "singer" than a "growler". Which is probably another reason why Morbid Angel got so popular compared to other contemporaries.

As for the old texts, go read them. There are numerous sources in libraries worldwide and the internet giving both untranslated and translated versions of countless Mesopotamian tablets. The rhythm in FFttF is very clear.

Domination still harbors the geniunity of anger and derision of most of mankind and its lies. There has always been a classy and poetic approach. Illud, aside from the obvious asinine lyrics & titles its vibe, atmosphere, and execution seems like something global; for "everyone"; dare I say egalartarian and watered down. There is no feeling of a "its for 'us' " but more so "its for anyone". It's friendly and conforms and doens't feel like a lance upon the everyday banality like previous records. With the other records I felt continuity, a "building to". With this record I feel estrangement. This record is for Hot Topic kids.
It's all about thoughts made flesh. Going out into the world and using your philosophy to put a mark on it. In that way Illud Divinum Insanus can be seen as an even more personal continuation of the Domination theme. Less external references.

Still Tucker > Evil D.

You responded exactly as predicted. You immediately jump to Vincent's defense and then attack F-H period.
I actually don't have a problem with him being a Vincent fanboy. Some people can't get into Sabbath with Dio 'cause they like Ozzy so much. What I do have a problem with:
There is no rhythm to these verses what so ever. It looks like something lifted straight from a book (which is probably the case).
You're right, it LOOKS like it's lifted from a book. The way he has the lines split up in the visual representation of the lyrics doesn't imply any rhythm. But how can you not hear the vocal patterns complementing the groove of the guitars and drums? They're absolutely rhythmic. It takes some talent to take prose that maybe wasn't written to a particular rhythm and make those words groove with it, especially if it's not a straight forward rhythm, as in the chorus (which is pretty unusual rhythmically for a chorus, IMO). Yet the vocals flow with the music really...sympathetically. Like the voice or don't, lyrics are good, lyrics are bad...I can see those differences of opinion. I don't see how one could call them devoid of rhythm, unless you haven't actually heard them. But I'm sure you have, so I'm just...puzzled.
Who the fuck needs vocal rhythm in a slow sludgy death metal song? This is way better than any of the bullshit David writes about HARDCORE MANIACAL
It HAS vocal rhythms! He just doesn't hear them for whatever reason.
(And I agree with you 1000%...I'll go one further and say that any and every Morbid Angel lyric ever written is better than what I've heard of Radikult and I Am Morbid. Even that goofy "sexy leopard elevator cries as he cuts way the strips of flesh" bit in Bleed for the Devil is better.)
Vincent can suck a fat dick for all I care. Domination onwards he's probably the worst influence on Morbid Angel
Probably, but what's more disturbing is that Morbid Angel have never been influenced by things that they don't want to be influenced by.
If anything you guys should have a bone to pick with "We are hardcore maniacal" and dreck like that. A - H is a home run lyrically and musically. "I" is an orphan in my eyes...
Totally. I don't care so much for many of the Domination lyrics, but for me it's a stylistic thing. Matter of preference. Whereas some of the stuff I've heard from Illud I actually find shitty in content as well as style. So much so that it actually distracts me from the stuff that may be decent. Which is kind of a failing on my part, I guess.

Seriously, LESS external references?! The techno beats came directly to Trey via the Living Continuum? Love the record all you want, but you can't really believe this.
...a proof that Trey can write lyrics with a proper rhythm to them would leave my argument invalid. Until then your word is... .
OK, let's think of something more conventional. Prayer of Hatred. You can really listen to the vocal rhythms in the verse and tell me they are not rhythmic? You quoted the dictionary's definition of lyrical...how about rhythm? OK, blast beat example. End of Heaving Earth. Mahummuhu-gal-gal, me-gal-gal xu ga hul. Amma Ushumgal Amma, me-gal-gal xu ga hul (or something). It's gibberish, if you don't understand, but it's absolutely rhythmic. Actually, every single lyric I can think of on Formulas is rhythmic.

Re: Domination lyrics
To mock one thing doesn't make another better. But I think Vicent's talent really shines when you compare it to this:
How can you defeat that which
finds
Nourishment in your attack?
How can you kill that which
Finds sanctuary in your blade?
How can you hinder that which
Embraces the strategies against it?
You can take nothing from not
In My Being, Nothing Is
Nothing Becomes
Nothing is not
In your world, all things return to Me
I'm the Collector of Souls
For they're never past my control
I take of what is and nothing of that I give
I'm the Alpha Omega
My Way in Itself, complete
I Am The Continuum
Human, meagerness of purpose
Come feed Me what I please
My spirit shan't be hindered
For It Knows no weakness
I dine on your pain
Your strength is only that of men
Human, why do you clutch your flesh so?
In My Being I AM
I Will
I Create
In your world all things return to Me
There is no rhythm to these verses what so ever. It looks like something lifted straight from a book (which is probably the case).

I don't like mundane sentences like 'where the wind blows' and 'My fingers on the button' I also don't like references to 'minute men'; that makes me think of orange juice
I also don't like the title 'Eyes to see, ears to hear': equally mundane to 'Mouth to eat, ass to shit'
I love the slimy vocal effects though: they also used it on Formulas and a bit on Covenant or even more albums?

It's like an apex, a culmination of their earlier work as described through more of a human's mind but an overman type that's realized that all of these words previous and present are metaphors! and still very much about self empowering. That is despite all the fine words purely subjective.

Re: Domination lyrics
The bad discussion skills of people never cease to amaze me. All the stuff that people can read out of nothing while never even bothering to address the actual arguments. Oh well...
This topic holds two separate discussions. One of personal taste and identification and one of lyrical qualities. The first one is well represented. No need to dwell on that. The latter would demand those taking part to actually read up on concepts like articulation and meter.
Slimegod, making a bunch of words fit a piece of music does NOT make the lyric more lyrical in itself. Prayer of Hatred is more lyrical than Nothing Is Not though. You're absolutely right about that.
Ps. For those who seek knowledge - <!-- m -->http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meter_(poetry<!-- m -->)

You made me remember that a fellating lover of mine used to say: "Yes, eyes to see, ears to hear and dick to cum."
In my opinion, your consideration is a bit mundane, the message in "Eyes to See, Ears to Hear" is clearly "Think for yourself": simple title, but absolutely brilliant!!!

Nor does a collection of words lyrical to some, make those lyrics more lyrical to others. The rules of meter and rhythm are obsolete since the 1900's and people are making the new rules all the time. We may like it or not (i prefer to ignore it because the art in general is dead since Warhol's shitty repetitions), but nowdays people are more creative while making their own rules. And that makes sense in the poetry or death metal lyrics also.
What happens in the case of FFF album is that the lyrics fit very nicely into the whole musical process and rhythm the band creates and that makes them lyrical (meaning - singable) per se if you care. Domination is just boring old-school ta-pa-ta-pa rhythms. Something most of us start to hate in the elementary school. FFF rises the whole concept to the new level.
They shifted from Vincent's form of ego-centrism ("we're here to dominate, etc") to a more speculative expression ("Blessed be the Ones
Who where here before and after remain"). It's not that the philosophy of Morbid Angel radicultly changed (LOL). It's like they've added a new cool ingredient. The old Morbid Angel still lies beneath but is somewhat enhanced. More relaxed about itself. David Vincent never focused on that. He was more subjective, but more trivial also. Nonlinearity of lyrical expression in FFF onwards just added more interesting stuff to the cake.
How are they not just trying to do what David did on the previous records?

"Friends, this is clean-up time and we're discounting all our silent, electric Ubiks by this much money. Yes, we're throwing away the blue-book. And remember: every Ubik on our lot has been used only as directed."
