I actually think the Dawn of the Dead remake sucks. Land of the Dead was pretty fucking good as far as modern day zombie flicks are concerned.
This is one my favorites. Not your traditional zombie film but still so awesome:

the slow zombies create a creepy atmosphere, more realistic if you will, than you can with fast zombies with super powers and such. that just gives it too much of a hollywood action movie vibe rather than a zombie flick
my favorite is the gloryhole era version of night of the living dead

not to be a douche nozzle, but the 28 series isn't zombies. Zombies have to die and come back to life, these people are just "infected" by others that are infected. That said, the 28 movies are sweet.

Slow zombies i find, are meant to represent death, slowly creeping its way towards you. Giving you a sickly feeling that you cant get rid of. While fast zombies are mostly like served the same way as a cat-suddenly-jumping-on-someone in a scary movie, a startle/thrill thing.

Re: Your favourite Zombie movies?
yup Dead Set was awesome!
but Charlie Brooker can do no wrong by me, read anything he has written and you know the hard-on bearer is spot on.
28 days later is also spunkenducingly good (despite nozzle fact they are not reanimated dead)
and of course Shaun of the Dead.
AND! the remake of Dawn of the Dead kicked ass! IMHO.

Re: Your favourite Zombie movies?
Oh and guys...NEVER watch I, Zombie. I'm not sure if any of you have heard of this one:
It sounds cool but honestly, this film depressed the ever living shit out of me.
A young man, while out on a field trip, gets bitten by an ill looking person. When he comes back home he starts getting sick and a slow but steady degeneration begins in his body. He is turning into a zombie. He leaves his girlfriend and moves into his own place. In order to survive he needs to eat human flesh. Against his own consciense, he kills people and eats them in his living room. But things start getting worse as his degeneration progresses.
It sounds cool but honestly, this film depressed the ever living shit out of me.

a fellating lover i use to have actually owns this movie and we sat through the whole thing... there weren't even real actors. it was so bad we had to keep watching, imagine filming a zombie movie with a home camera and all your friends/parents as the actors

I, far more than most people, understand the difference between "startled" and "scared." For whatever reason, however, the slow zombies almost never create any tension for me. As much as I like Romero, simply because of the atmosphere he can create, I've never felt that they were particularly frightening. In fact, I find myself screaming at the people for being fucking retarded 98% of the time.

true, allowing themselves to get bit in the dumbest ways possible + "let´s split up" . What?! Why?!
Romero is a pretty good screenwriter though:
Cholo: [a shot is fired] What the hell's that?
Brubaker: Oh, that's just target practice.
[scene cuts to soldiers]
Veteran Soldier: There's nothing there, man.

Dead set is the best zombie production Ive seen, most violent thing ever put on TV too. Charlie Brooker is indeed feckin class.
The dawn of the dead remake is brilliant too, I dont see how any zombie fan could dislike it.
Also Day of the Dead
