I think the only song that will give me pause is "Radikult"--too bad it's not just a little electronic interlude instead of being the longest song on the CD! "Profundis-Mea Culpa" might actually sound quite badass live with real drums--the 90 second version contains some pretty cool riffs.
Can you tell if the drums are real and the "techno" is actually guitar and not effects? I am not be saying this right but I swear I read/heard that there was no electronics used and Trey actually did them using his guitar and effects pedals. I am really hosing asking this, but as a musician yourself do you get that sense? And the last 30 seconds or so on Mea Culpa just frigging shreds :bang:
"stroke me, for i wish to orgasm"...it never even occurred to me that the "guitar" parts might be synths in certain songs! :mmno: I think I could tell, and based on the samples, they sound real. I really can't imagine Trey doing that! The drums definitely sound electronic on "Profundis"--I wouldn't be at all surprised if they made a "live" version of it. However, "Radikult" needs to stay a studio project unless the parts I haven't heard would cause a mass eruption of semen.
I am the Dragon. And you call me insane. You are privy to a great becoming, but you recognize nothing. To me, you are a slug in the sun. You are an ant in the afterbirth. It is your nature to do one thing correctly: Before me, you rightly tremble. But, fear is not what you owe me. You owe me awe.

Making a video for a song does not make it for some secondary class of fan, especially with a band like Morbid Angel.

Well when I've been to countless MA shows and the crowd sits there and doesn't sing along to ANYTHING, then they close with GoE (which regardless if video or not, is boring as shit) and everyone gets all excited (liked they woke from a coma) and start singing every lyric. :puke:

So, because people at shows sing along to a song they enjoy, they are second class fans because you don't like that song?

We're getting the album in pieces! Hehe. First it was Nevermore live 3 years ago, then the drum tracking Tim video of Blades for baal, his clinic playing 10 more dead, then the Existo leak, the Nevermore single and now the samples!

DustyVag, I couldn't agree more. It fucking screams HOT TOPIC.

To the hard-on bearer that wants to hurl when people sing along to God of Emptiness...wait'll you see a bunch of emo looking fuckasses screaming "we're livin' hardcore radical!" And fuck..."I [was] Morbid?" I don't know what's more offensive, Evil D claiming to be Morbid, or the legions of mall metal posers that will be screaming it. He said "let their children come to me" and I bet they will.

I've never ever missed a Morbid Angel show if I could help it. I once drove from Miami to Tallahassee just to see them. I once drove from Houston to Dallas to Oklahoma City and back to Houston to see them twice in a row. By myself. Now, knowing they're gonna play this stuff...I don't know if I'd go see them. I know it's dumb...but I really might not be able to. The fact that I'd even consider missing a Morbid show is depressing.

OK, in all fairness...I'm being totally unfair. I keep ragging on Evil D. And I guess he deserves it, 'cause...he calls himself Evil D. But it's shitty of me to blame him. At this point I doubt that Trey would put stuff on the album that he wasn't into himself, and he's probably the "gatekeeper" for such things. So I can't lay all the blame at Evil D.'s knee-high vinyl booted, toenails painted black feet.

But you've seen the pictures of him in Genitorturers...he's just such an easy target.

I wonder what it's like for Thor. He gets the death metal gig of all death metal gigs and then...this happens.

Ok, based on these longer samples, here is my revised opinion of all the songs excluding the intro, Existo and Nevermore:

Too Extreme: Too Good.

Blades for Baal: It really reminds me of the old times. Blessed-Covenant. This song kicks my ass.

I Am Morbid: I actually like this now. I think it sounds fucking awesome. Can you honestly tell me you don't like the part after 4:10? You must be lying if you say you don't. I think this whole song is going to kick ass.

10 More Dead: Don't really like it.

Destructos: Superb song. Love the evil sounding vocals.

Beauty Meets Beast: So far my favorite. This is the one song where musically, alongside Nevermore, (based on the sample) I feel Trey is in the 'Ancient Ones' state of mind.

Radikult: I'm just going to pretend this song is not on the album.

Mea Culpa: Might be good once I hear the whole track.

Too extreme, radikult way too disappointing and the last track too :wall:

I am morbid, destructos vs the earth again :frown: not-metal

rest album is a good music approach, but there is no LIFE in the music any more, that living feel is the reason i listen to MA . The flow is no more there.

It just like any other common metal album for me and not even metal at some points :eyes:

whatever it is I dont find the most important thing in the music for which i listen MORBID ANGEL.

every album till G was different but not like this, the music had life, a different message/feel in every album. Azagthoth's compositions being metal always seem to had classical influences.

And fucking this has influence for a music originated after MA was formed. Other than nevermore the music is almost dead for me :wall:

This is what i feel, other may have different views for this. But this is not what i find in morbid angel.

That is not true. Industrial and stuff started in the mid seventies. Just as metal it evolved in different branches.

To this point I am curious about the HOT TOPIC thing. Is it not a good thing that people can go in a store and buy licensed shit of a band? Or is it that only certain people are supposed to listen to a particular kind of music and buy that bands merchandise? It seems to me that if a band is enjoyed by people, even if only one song, but that one songs gets them to go see a show, buy an album, or a t-shirt than ultimately it is helping the band by giving them money and getting their name out there to an even more diverse audience. Isn't that what musicians want, to have their music spread? How does what someone else listens to or how they dress possibly affect me or my interests. A bunch of kids singing along to God of Emptiness, so what? They are there, they paid money just like you  It seems there is a great concern for image, whatever the hell that is supposed to be. I can appreciate the starving artists mentality (not saying that is what this is) but I don't understand why the angst towards Hot Topic. Maybe I am just too old to understand that image is more important than taste. (This may seem like I am being argumentative and it is not meant that way, just curious) :santa:

This and then some, but I am finding the more I listen it is growing without having to lower my standard or expectations. Like I posted earlier it seems this album was intentionally meant to do something completely different, and they have succeeded. :rshot:

The "Black" release comparison was all I could think of as an apt comparison and I am still sticking with it. Also I am going to contact and see if we can still get the download on the release date even though the box-set has been pushed back.

I'm saying I do not like it. And unfortunately...it has sunk in. It's like when your dog died, and you knew that, but it only sunk in the first time you got home from work and he wasn't there. Except this is like you get home and you find its body and it's wearing a vinyl shirt and eyeliner. Sorry, Evil D is an easy target.
I can honestly tell you I don't like the part after 4:10. I'm absolutely not lying.

You can honestly tell me you like this better than 10 More Dead? You must be lying.

In all seriousness, Baal sounds really cool.
I Am Morbid and Destructos seems to be metal. Notice that those are mostly drums on Destructos.
Green Day uses real drums, too. "I [Was] Morbid" reminded me of the first single from the latest album by The Haunted. Which sucked, and reminded me of "mall metal" too. Meaning music for frat boys and posers.
To this point I am curious about the HOT TOPIC thing. Is it not a good thing that people can go in a store and buy licensed shit of a band? Or is it that only certain people are supposed to listen to a particular kind of music and buy that bands merchandise?
Dude, it is absolutely a good thing. I think distribution and getting your art in front of as many people as possible is hugely important if you want to make money as an artist. Look, as lame as I think these samples are, Morbid Angel gave me a bunch of inspiring music to listen to. If they suddenly went to #1 on Billboard and you saw kids wearing their shirts everywhere, I'd be glad. They deserve to become rich and famous for their body of work. No question. Where I live, "Hot Topic" has become synonymous with posers, basically. That store is like a "how to be a rebel and piss your parents off" convenience store. I've totally bought stuff there before, because they actually carry good stuff at times. But I was specifically referring to, as DustyVag said, kids who had no clue about the band before and just bought it because they heard Radikult on the radio or something. I'll go one further--kids that did that, but would have had no use for Covenant if they heard it first and wouldn't have checked it out if it WASN'T featured at their favorite store that sells colored contact lenses and black nail polish alongside metal and emo CDs.

The fact that they're buying it at all is good for the band, and the last part of what I just said is totally elitist. I recognize that. It's irrational and comes from feeling "protective" of something that means a lot to you. Intellectually, I say more power to them, they deserve the greenbacks. Emotionally there's a tinge of "oh, now you care?" But mainly, my Hot Topic comment had to do with the fact that it feels marketed toward that crowd in the very writing of the music. Take a band like Obscura. They wrote a death metal album that was clearly not WRITTEN for widespread appeal, but it got featured at Hot Topic. Awesome, I am behind that 100%. However with this album, I feel like parts of it, at least, were written such that it could appear at something like a Hot Topic. Written to appeal to a certain type of potential customer. Since when did Morbid Angel write for a particular group of people? Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe Trey got out of listening to death metal for years and then discovered techno and...Marilyn Manson? That's what makes me wonder. If the outside stuff were just techno shit, which we know he has gotten into, then it'd SEEM more sincere. But the weird Rammstein/Manson etc. stuff...I don't buy that he got into that. Maybe David wrote that stuff, who knows.
How does what someone else listens to or how they dress possibly affect me or my interests. A bunch of kids singing along to God of Emptiness, so what? They are there, they paid money just like you  It seems there is a great concern for image, whatever the hell that is supposed to be.
I think you're right. I goofed on the emo looking kids because I personally think they look dorky. I don't begrudge them the right to enjoy a great band just because they look silly. I've met old school metalheads that went and got haircuts like that. And I made fun of them, but they didn't suddenly become less metal or less cool. Well, maybe a little less cool. Anyway, legions of kids singing along to GoE fills me with joy, no matter what they look like. Some other hard-on bearer said he hated that song, etc. Legions of kids singing Radikult would make me feel differently.

If Evil D sounded fruital as hell and the samples I heard were awesome, I'd still be goofing on how he looks like Nikki Sixx in the promo pictures and is wearing eyeliner and shit like that. I wouldn't respect him any less. I respect him less because of the lyrics he's written on this album. Even if the music ruled, I'd complain about the lyrics.
I can appreciate the starving artists mentality (not saying that is what this is) but I don't understand why the angst towards Hot Topic. Maybe I am just too old to understand that image is more important than taste. (This may seem like I am being argumentative and it is not meant that way, just curious) :santa:
I think it's a valid point. If I did music professionally, I would not want to be a fucking starving artist. The last thing I want is for bands I love to barely make enough money to get by. You know why? Because when they start having families, all of a sudden there's pressure to either make way more money by selling out, or to hang it up and get a "real job." (And I totally agree--if you're going to have a family, that is your obligation: to support them as best you can. Anything less is selfish, IMO) I don't like either of those outcomes, and they can come about even without having to support kids. They can come about just because you're hungry and tried of fucking ramen noodles all the time. If I could snap my fingers and make Maveth a household name, and have their shit displayed at Hot Topic, I would. But if it took them writing music specifically to be featured there...I would wish them the best but I'd be disappointed. I want music that's sincere, from the head, heart and balls. I don't care where it's sold or who consumes it, as long as it was pure in its conception.
Anyone who knows the last name of the hard-on bearer who mixed Illud? His first name is Shawn og Shaun...
I'm also curious to know how the producing was split. Maybe Eric produced drums and Trey the rest? Was it this hard-on bearer Mark Prator?

That'd be interesting.

Erik produced nothing. He just tracked the drums as was stated in all media.

Never was it mentioned that he would produce anuthing. Just misinformance and assumption.

As a matter of fact, I think a lot of folks don't even know what producing is...

Exactly. Recording (or engineering) and Producing are totally different things.

However, all media actually informed everyone falsely.

Illud wasn't recorded and produced at Mana Recording Studios. Only 6 tracks of drums were recorded by Erik at Mana. The rest was recorded at Punchy's Diet of Worms studio and the vocals somewhere else (I can't recall the studio's name). Then it was mixed by Sean Beavan.

The media should really get their stories and background information straight. It's quite annoying.

IT does not seem Trey is morbid angel, till now he use to contribute the most about 95%

I think he is not serious about this album or interested in it. He must be wanting other to do most of the job ?
