inspirations

Post by zim »

whenever i hear a local band, even if it isn't any good, it really inspires me to want to make music. i really think it's a little bit of jealousy in me because i have such a hard time composing full songs. i don't like to think of music as a competition but when I hear a local metal bands songs I can't help but to be arrogant and think "my stuff is so much better.", even if it's not death metal.

i think my problem with finishing music is that i absolutely hate repetition: which means i have to come up with a shitload of material to be satisfied. :homework:

I feel the exact same thing when I watch a band or whatever, I get frustrated and feel a total rage to just go up on stage and play and just overwhelm the other bands with my material. But this is a thing that motivates you to do a great gig, so It's positive I guess. There is no better feeling than standing in front of the stage and think "Well, my band will play right after this, and we will fucking crush them" and then actually doing it. I have the same problems writing music, I CAN'T sit down and just write a whole song, I have to be in the rehearsal room and improvise and try out diffrent stuff with the drummer, and listen to the other members ideas and create something out of that.

i can agree that seeing other bands would be good for lighting a fire under oneself to get to work.

there are alot of metal bands where i am at that seem to just be compiling riffs and not really thinking about context, etc.

there are also alot of "eco-feminist cascadian black metal" bands that don't do much for me either.

so i like to stay home, smoke bowls, compile riffs and make skeletons of songs. maybe someday i'll find others to play with.
