Sibelius 6

Post by jawn galliano »

Anyone use this for composition/scoring/etc.? My music theory class has random lab sessions now and again where we use this to put some of the lecture material into practice and such, but they're pretty rare (the lab sessions) and I never feel like I'm productive enough because I spend half the lab time fighting with the software to get it to do roughly what I have in mind. I decided to go ahead and downloaded a copy of it to fuck around with at home, and I was wondering if anyone here is experienced with it and could maybe provide some tips on general usage. keyboard shortcuts, useful things to know, etc.,

if it helps, i'm mainly trying to score some basic percussion stuff right now.

I've worked with 4 and 5 in my first year, but I always struggled with the UI. :homework:

it's on demonoid, don't have the link handy but if you can't find it i can post it up later. you might try looking for a different program though, i don't know what else is out there in terms of similar applications, but this one is no fun to use.

yeah, this is a major issue for me. everything seems kind of counterintuitive. i'm sure a lot of it is learning curve type stuff, but there's just a lot of behavior that strikes me as weird. like, if you're using a lot of accidentals, you have to manually toggle every single goddamned note; as soon as you lay one down it assumes the next note is going to be a natural. even selecting a group of notes seems damn near impossible because as far as i can tell, there's no selection tool so if you click anywhere on the staff it will place a note/rest/etc.. i got that to work once, just to copy/paste a couple measures, but i have no idea how i pulled it off.
