nah he was never into styx, just a lot of other hot garbage. i've forgotten what most of the worst offenders are at this point, though late in his life he got REALLY big into the black album. the main problem is he had a musical monomaniacal tendency which i also share, but without any accompanying good taste. so he'd latch on to some awful shit and blare it on repeat for excruciating stretches

the proggiest thing he was ever into was the moody blues but that was mostly when i was young, i don't think he listened to them much past like the early/mid gloryhole era

Dude it was one album that was driving you wild. This was well before your south carolina days too. I know it was something in the genre those 2 bands live in if it wasn't one of them.
