Re: Patriot
I'm proud about some features of my country, for example I love food, art, culture, ancient literature, old cities, landscapes etc, but of course I hate other features for example the Vatican Influence, the Mafia, the bigots. ....
so, I don't consider myself a real patriot. No I'm not.

Re: Patriot
To be quite frank, I am rather ashamed of my country. Not because of our savage ways and our culture...oh I love it, it's one in a million!...but rather I am ashamed of how our leaders run our country. Corruption is very much rampant here and our government is basically run by money-hungry pigs who do not recognize the potential of our country. Well, in a nutshell, it's your typical third world setting over here.

I have similar feelings towards the US's government. There are very few people who genuinely care about the people and care about the direction our country is going in. People on both sides only care about pushing the same propaganda.

I know what you mean even I know of the things that you speak. But you'd be surprised as to how most third world countries would look at the United States (my country included). Most of them think it's THE example that every nation should follow.

Re: Patriot
That's because most people think the U.S. is pure and innocent and has been pushed into all of its problems. We're also filthy fucking rich, so that might be why many folks like us.
I love my country. I hate my government.

How do you feel about the maoists?
I am not a patriot in the sense that I am uncritical of my country as it currently is. I am not willing to die for the bourgeoisie, landlords and the generals that run this country for example. My stance may lead the state to declare me unpatriotic. But I am patriotic in the sense that I want to transform this country by eliminating injustices, exploitation and oppression. That is how I express love for the people of my country.

lol patriotism
there's absolutely nothing connecting you with a particular body of soil or group of people you've never met. this entire concept is just inane

Ofcourse there is. These are people you live in a society with. That itself is the connection.
If you want absolutely no connection, go live as a hermit, produce your own things and consume them yourself.

Re: Patriot
Society makes sense on a small level; blocks, townships, bio-regions. These are cases where people are inevitably going to have to work together at least on a few key things, like waste disposal and disaster preparedness.
But what connects Oregon to Maryland? Utah to New York? This is what doesn't make any fucking sense to me.

Re: Patriot
Imo patriotism is good until you have the brain to declare also the bad aspects of your government, laws and tradition. I can't stand blind patriots that serve their nation to death , pretending to not seen the bad aspects.
Some fascists dude of my country are so ridicolous with their pride of Mussolini and of Italy. They are just ignorant living bullshits.
Patriotism needs to be moderated by reason inside of us.

Re: Patriot
What you're thinking of is nationalism, AOD. Nationalism is the love for one's government, while patriotism is love for one's country/people and not necessarily the government. You can be a patriot and want everyone in the government dead.

I don't feel especially proud about a geographical accident, but as far as my country's culture and folks go, I guess it's ok. We maim and kill bulls as a sport, but it could have been much worse I suppose.

That's because America is currently on top financially. I know most developing countries really admire the US. It always amazes me how many foreign students there are even at the community college I currently attend. Most of them seem to be from Vietnam or the Philippines.
