Anyone know this bass?

Post by Conservative_Heretic »

I know David from Morbid Angel used to play one. I can tell it is a Takamine but I can't find any other information. Can you guys give further information on it? I want to buy one.

It looks very awesome. But I can't find any information about it either. I wonder if it is a Jackson/Takamine-custom made or something. What kind of information do you wan't? I don't think you'll find that bass today, it's very rare. And the company Takamine is mostly into accoustic basses and guitars today.

Mainly the model so I can try and find one :xx: I would pay a sweet penny for one  but only knowing Takamine to go by I keep finding acoustics and such. It is very sweet though.

here is the info i have found about that line of guitars... it's the GE400GT.

The Takamine solid body electric guitars were a short lived line that we imported from 1984 to 1986.

They were a high quality instrument, made in Japan. All mahogany with set necks and proprietary over wound humbuckers.

Most of the guitars had tremolos. These guitars had some cool details. There is an ardent group of collectors of

these instruments as they are somewhat rare. They play and sound great, rock hard, and make other guitarists go "Whoa"!!

There were 6 basic models. All sexy and alluring.

GX100T - Pointy-Pointy explorer style. Could put your eye out.

GX200T - Double cutaway, Simple, but dangerous.

GZ340-T - Strat style. This is the rarest.

GZ300T - Higher quality double cutaway with a zebra flamed top. Became the GZ350T. Simply Gorgeous!

GE400GT - Explorer shaped in black with VERY 1980s red pin-striping! Also available in an equally stunning bass.

GE410GT- Insanely beautiful Arrow shaped thing in black with the 80's red pin striping. Again, availiable in an equally insane looking bass. Zowie.

The "T" after the number indicates a tremolo model.

The Retail prices ranged from $279.00 to $539.00

Guitar version is also very cool!

The body could've been a bit bigger imo

Why'd they stop making them? How do they sound?

It is a typical 80s style shape. grunge killed this kind of styles back then. No customer interest.

Setneck mahogony construction. hummies, think explorer/flying V style. They were budget guitars though. The binding is painted. And that Kahleris one of the lesser quality. The bass body is the same size as the guitar one. I've been toying with the idea of building a replacement body for one of my basses in this style.

The guitar version was sold for around 500 euros a while back on ebay germany. Almost mint. That's twice as much as the retail price back then.

In some interview I heard someone say that Dave was always looking for basses that were only black and/or red :redneck:

Depends which one. And you need to learn to set it up.
