The second half of the Close To A World Below album

Post by Devy »

What the hell is going on with the vocals? Did Ross blow out his voice? Was he not there? Why do they sound like they've been done by Soundwave from Transformers?

They just sound robotic, like they've been heavily edited soundwise. Compare them to the ones in any earlier track, someone will have to see what I mean. THEY HAVE TO!

I thought Unpardonable Sin was his second best performance on the album, to be honest. The title track, I kind of see your point. It's as if they decided to record it all in one day and he just got kind of tired.

They pretty much change from Put My Hand In The Fire onwards. It's strange really. I rate Ross as one of the best death metal vocalists ever so I don't quite understand why they'd mess with them like that without a reason.

You are right, I hear some difference, but not a really huge difference.

Yeah, maybe he blew his voice.

Ross is badass. He plays the bass with his fingers and sings fucking incredible.

I notice it too, and I have the answer: Ross is really awesome.

on another note, he is surprisingly small in person, but appears really big on stage

As I said, the hard-on bearer is easily one of the best vocalists death metal has ever produced. That's why I found it so odd that they changed for half the album like that.

Ross and Bob are quite the small fellows. On stage Ross is a monster, but then you meet him offstage and you just want to hug him :redneck:

Unless one is a woman. They seem to have completely different ideas about what they might like to do to that fellow.

It'd still start with a hug sir. I won't hear of anything else.

I've watched plenty of Behind the Music to know that a hug isn't necessary!

I don't know if I want to live in a world where hugging isn't necessary

Nice guys do indeed finish last, because we let the lady finish first.

It's an effect they put on the vocals in mixing, probably a chorus of some type. It's on other Immolation albums too.

Yes, but I think the operative question is why only the second half?
