rick santorum talks a lot of crazy talk and has plenty of dumb ideas, but i wouldn't consider him any more or less dangerous than any other garden variety national-stage politician, and anyway his political career is finished (of course, he'll segue nicely into a career making millions off selling his political connections and influence to the highest bidder). there was no chance anyone but romney was getting the nod, which seemed pretty obvious to me long before the deal was sealed

the onus is actually on anyone who can watch 30 seconds of santorum or cain or any of the other dudes that were in the field this year, and then explain with a straight face why you think anyone as openly crazy/incompetent/what-have-you, would ever get the nomination. it was clear a year ago that romney was the only dude making a run who had both mass appeal and didn't come across as a total lunatic (this is not to say that he isn't a total lunatic, of course -- just that he's good at concealing it from most voters).



but it's a useless debate at this stage, because it is literally impossible for romney to win, barring some truly extraordinary event in the very near future (e.g., sitting president gets assassinated, direct nuclear strike on the US, that level of extraordinary -- we are not talking paul ryan scale shit here, doggs).

Same goes for Michele Bachmann.



But realistically I don't really have anything to gain or loose regardless of whether it's Obama or Romney. I'm not poor enough for any form of welfare, and I'm probably not ambitious enough to start my own business, which of course would be much more possible and easier in a fair regulatory system.
